You will be looking at around £7000.

If it's been in the UK for a while then yes rust issues still pertain.

Finding a low mileage unmolested one is difficult. Maybe one or two available at a time.

Standard things when looking at a classic so rusty arches, knocking rear suspension, unmapped mods and poor history.

Avoid v4's as theyre on the crossover so some have facelift dash/preface front and vice versa. V5/6 if you can afford one.

Check the dccd works (not just the lights on the dash), make sure gearbox code matches the chassis plate, check for play in the steering and make sure that anything like doors, trim, interior are in good nick as 2 door parts command a premium.

What I mean by crossover is exactly as I stated, V4's tend to be a cocktail of facelift and pre-facelift, especially 1998 cars.

The JDM car Model Years (MY) run from Sept to Sept, hence the cross over you talk about.
However, if you check the chassis number the Version will be either 3 or 4 and the tweaks to the interior and engine will be evident. Unless someone is trying to pass off an older car as a newer version.
