My wheel was thin, hard and shiny, and since my wife recently got a new 3-series M Sport I realised just how nasty it now felt.

So I decided to get it retrimmed using Jack at Royal Steering wheels

Went for black alcantara in the end because I just couldn't resist it after seeing his samples. But I could have nappa leather or combinations of alcantara/nappa-leather. Could have had a centre stripe at the top and a choice of stitching colours.

He made it 2mm thicker than before. It used to be quite thin. Not BMW levels of chunkiness, but pleasantly more meaty.

So very pleased overall. Price is good, Jack is a nice guy. I wish I had done this years ago.

Prior to having my impreza I had an m3 and royal steering wheel retrims were always really popular. Seen loads of his work and its always been excellent.

Yours looks great, the red stitching sets it off a treat.

I got mine done there aswell, I chose the grey Alcantara with yellow drift marker

 

Yep, my last 2 cars (M3 & RS4) had nice chunky steering wheels. Felt like a bus steering wheel when I first got the blob so had mine thickened/re-trimmed by Jack, he's done a couple of steering wheels for me now and will be the first mod I do on any car from now on. His work is absolutely spot-on and cheap as well at around £120!

 

This guy does a quality job bye the look of it.

Perfect timing for me to see some recommendations for jack too. I'm going to see what magic he might be able to work on the old classic plastic wheel. No response on a post I put up to ask if anyone else had done that so looking forward to seeing what jack suggests.

 

Rex, he can re-trim any kind of steering wheel as he just applies the new leather over the original finish, so whether the wheel is plastic or leather it doesn't matter. He can thicken the rim as much as you want and use any colour of stitching including upto 3 different thread colours like the BMW M tri-colour stitching for instance.

Will you get the gear non and hand brake to match?

 

Costs are from £120. Depends on which sort of leather, or alcantara, and whether he fits it or not.

I'm not bothered by the gear lever or handbrake personally.

 

I had mine trimmed there about 6 months ago for when I did time attack attack at brands hatch,
I needed a suede wheel for the fireproof gloves but still wanted to retain the air bag and oem look for when on the road.
Went black alcantara and blue stitching and band.

My type R had a retrimmed one in it when I bought it

 

They have done my previous three cars wheels , my current one was done for a mates car and he then sold it so saved me the trip to get it done , £120 for such a great looking and dealing mod is well worth it imo !

 

Doesn't the alcantara feel uncomfortable in hot weather? Thinking it would make my hands itch!

Want to get mine done but think I'll go for the nappa leather.
