I've got a 2005 Sti blob widetrack with PPP. The car has only 38k miles and the next space in the service book is 60k mile service.

I've been quoted £549 main dealer and £411 specialist independent.

Dilemma is I can do the entire service myself competently with premium fluids and Subaru parts for significantly less money but I won't get the stamp in the book.

What's peoples thoughts on what I should do?

 

I don't see a problem with doing yourself, as long as you have receipts for all the parts. Just write in the service book for continuity.

 

Yep, do it yourself and keep all the details receipts. Never had any problem selling on any of my last 4 impreza's this way.

 

Keep receipts and jot down the mileage on them when done

exactly what i do, just paid just under 200 for....
millers engine oil
motul gear/diff oil
both washers too
both aux belts
black oil filter
pollen filter
fuel filter
spark plugs

 

Un doing the diff plugs is a pain on the drive way, I put my ratchet on the plugs and used a jack to loosen them, just a quick tip mate

 

Good spray of penetrating oil the day before, mine were pretty easy tbh, most hassle was getting the oil in the diff, you need about 1 meter of clear hose so you can get the bottle up into the rear wheel arch and let gravity do the rest.

Edit to add; bollocks to paying £400, can get 4 new tyres and an oil change for that much, and for £549 from the dealer I'd want the receptionist to be sucking my **** while I waited.

 

It really is easy with basic tools to service these cars, I know some people like the stamps etx but for me nothing beats doing it yourself

 

What about if the receptionist was a guy called barry and he weighed 18st

I do all my own work, that way i know its done right, i know what fluids and parts were used and i save a shed load of cash, just keep the receipts, they show more than a service stamp anyway tbh.
