Buying 2008 WRX STI vs 2014 WRX STI?
Hi Folks I've just signed up today but have a few questions.
Yesterday I went to RallySchoolIreland and got to play a bit in a 2014 WRX STI
I've now realised that my next car has to be some sort of WRX STI. I know the newer version has a stiffer chassis but other than that.. What else is different? I'm having trouble finding difference, I did a search but can't quite find what I'm looking for.
They both have the likes of si-drive etc.
I'd assume the hatchback handles is different to the saloon? If so how?
These are the two shapes I'm looking at (albeit wont be until the end of the year as I currently have a lease Fiesta ST)

both crap in uk form.
if you want either get a jdm version as they have the 2.0 engine.
the 2.5 they put in the uk cars is rubbish and has numerous issues that require a 3k rebuild and the warranty is hard work as they avoid paying out at all costs.

There is no such thing as a car with a "bulletproof" engine but there is a thread at the top of this page for good reason.
If you want a UK car with an engine that stands less chance of exploding you have three options, apologies for the LWC bullet points
1. Buy a well-maintained pre-2006 model Newage car with the 2.0 single scroll engine
2. Buy a car with a "forged" engine build, from a reputable specialist.
3. You could always buy the limited edition Cosworth model hatch from 2011-2013 with an engine built by Cosworth themselves.
You can also consider, as suggested by Mr Thomas, a JDM car. These come with engines that are stronger than our 2.5s as standard but it's really down to what you are after.
Bear in mind that Subarus are very much enthusiasts cars and there is always a tuning option that can take you in the direction you wish to go. There is never a right or wrong answer

Are you looking to lease the 2014 STi?
Nah looking to buy outright been looking around the forums today found a few more resources although still struggling to come to a decision as to what's the best engine wise.
I'm still undecided if I want a slightly older hatch or a newer saloon shape as they're both really nice looking!
