Default Picked up the car

Finally went and got the car today, a quick text from Max telling me that he had received the log book and I was there within two hours driving it. Very impressed with the driveability as well as the aggressive performance. Gonna have to watch out for people trying to race - within 5 minutes I had a bmw up my *** and besides me egging me on, I refrained!!!

Can't fault it at all, however it had standard stereo and won't tune in to our frequencies - after SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB I see I can buy an fm extension, but it also won't play normal Cd's nor ones I burned myself but results in error code "Er-D"), maybe I can change the region on my laptop to burn but I think the japs are region 2 like us?

I apologise if I have offended / irritated anyone with this post but I cannot find any info online ;-)

Thanks a lot, really glad too, a new stereo is on the wish list although can't get one for a couple of months, an alarm will be first. Any ideas regarding the cd?

CDs aren't region encoded. My first port of call would be to try and clean the CD 'lens', Get some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud and try and clean it via the CD slot or better still remove the stereo and see if you can gain access to it.

In my experience CD players get dirty especially if stood. Cleaning the lens often fixes any issues.

No, but just go for a good make that does the basics, no point spending a fortune on an alarm, no ****** takes any notice of them anyway.

Most important thing about an alarm is the guy fitting it, 2nd is reliability.

If you're anywhere near Notts I can recommend someone, and he will travel within reason upto 100 miles.

Thanks Ditch, I am in South London and have a guy near me who I have used for fitting stereo's and speakers in the past, a company called Safe n Sound - always been good and honest. He quoted me £350 supplied and fitted, I think the important thing is that it comes with an immobiliser, combined with a steering lock from Halfords I think I'll have peace of mind

i used them once for a major service. Not only did they charge a fortune but they missed things off like not changing plugs changing coolant and brake fluid. After complaining and getting it sorted i never went back again.

I presume you are in Hooley? Ten mins away from me. Maybe we should organise a local meet? Thanks for the heads up regarding Kinghams, any decent specialists nearby? Wouldn't wanna waste time with money grabbers.

In terms of the way it feels against the UK car I can't really say as this is the only impreza I have ever driven but it really feels tight and well planted. It's quite calm when below boost and between 3-4K it starts to motor, above 4K with the right foot down the passengers I have had so far have always been screaming :-) perhaps in a twin-scroll the fun starts a bit earlier? However the acceleration is brutal and every time I give it a blast I am left wondering how something can travel so fast as standard and how you guys feel the need to make them even faster??? Brakes feel good although very different to any car I've driven before, the pedal has more of a solid resistance than that reassuring spongy feeling of a regular car (maybe a servo difference?). They seem initially responsive and then a bit more stamping is required.

If I were to be hyper hyper critical then I would say the temperature gauge is ever so slightly on the warm side of half way (I mean a gnats if anything), it never goes above and the fan always kicks in, making me think I am being haunted by my previous cars, usually over heating on a regular basis, although upon first noticing this - within ten mins smoke was coming from the bonnet - I accept this could be a coincidence. The seats seem extremely figure-hugging and very comfortable, I am yet to throw it round some bends as thanks to the UK weather I haven't had the chance to get to know the car too well yet. Once it dries up maybe I can pop to the grandparents in Chichister and take the A24/A29 country roads route and put the handling to the test.

Still early days and still getting to know the car really but love it so far. Everything electronic works flawlessly, a few subtle knocks and bumps coming from the underneath here and there so maybe this will flag something up at some point but a brand new MOT gives me confidence for a year.

Oh one weird thing every time you turn the heater on and direct it to your feet/face and then back to the screen blowers the aircon pops itself on? Maybe a Japanese preference

I always wondered how the twin scroll feels as people highly rate it. I had a UK Blob PPP and i fought is quite rapid. My passengers were well shocked as how fast it goes.

Maybe some day I will get a JDM, would love a white hawk jdm.

Hi.

If you haven't already, get yourself onto www.surreyscoobies.co.uk/forums/ they will reccommend a decent independent garage that will be better than Kinghams

Thanks I will sign up now. If the meet is this Sunday then I'm not gonna be in the impreza as I received a panic call from the insurance company today telling me that I can't drive it until 9 am
on Monday. I could still come along though

Air conditioning acts as a de humidifier, so on many cars that have air con when the vent control is set to windscreen de mist it selects the ac automatically, to clear the screen as rapidly as possibly. Not just a jdm thing, all the volvos I've had with ac do it as well.
