Castrol Syntrax or Universal as it now sold as, is perfect for 5 speed imprezas. 3.5l for gearbox, just under a litre for the rear diff.

Im using castrol universal in my 6 speed as it was recommended to me by rcm as being the best oil for the 6 speed box. Its certainly good stuff, the only downside is when you first drive the car in the morning its slightly stiff to get the gears until the oil warms up a bit. Normally takes about 5 minutes.

i used castrol syntrax and motul gear 300 in my wrx bug.On Syntrax when oil was cold i can feel bit notchy on some gears but when warm up was smooth as butter, but on Motul was all way round except very very notchy gears when oil warm up.So i did go for Syntrax,as seems to be much better choice for my box. Both oils are good.
