Default Tescos momentum

recently ive been suffering a sluggish 4th/5th gear response over the past 500 miles or so itx not been bad but noticeable
Not changed anything or fettled

So tank was getting low and filled up on my usual momentum (un mapped car always used it even on other cars ive owned) this evening. And I've got my performance back.
Gave it a good spanking just to make sure and everything is spot on
Starting to think I may have had a bad batch of fuel? I've read they add an addidtive to there fuel to bring up RON rating??

Agree about the Momentum,

But what's the OP about? "recently ive been suffering a sluggish 4th/5th real"...

There appears to be a little bit of detail missing from the post

Always used tesco because there one two mins from my house and one outside of my work. Tried v power once on the way back from rally day and didn't give me the range that the tescos stuff did on the jolly on the way up

Apparently Tesco fuel has more additives (in layman's - more ****) in it then VPower. VPower is apparently marginally better as a fuel.

On what scientific basis did you arrive at this conclusion

Full tank from my front door in essex to castle Combe. Lots of enthusiastic driving. meeting various people along the way as you do. Killed the rest of the tank to get to the services on the m4 brimmed again constant cruise all the way home. Was screaming for fuel by the time I got to thurrock services on the m25. Not exactly scientific but that my experience

Anyways I'm not fussed to be honest I don't have a shell for miles around me only littered with tescos. I don't pay attention to mpg, when I get to quater tank I fill up again. If you need fuel you need fuel.
Just baffled as to why at my last fill up how it's got more get up and go?

Maybe worth asking the manager at the forecourt how often the momentum tanks are refilled in comparison to their normal unleaded.

I often question to myself how long does it take for a oxygenated fuels (which all petrol in the UK is, now ) to degrade.

Also point to note if you have a fuel sysetm problem, like small amounts of air getting sucked in through a pinhole, for example (or dodgy jet pump, or pickup etc), then this will be a lot more noticeable as your tank approaches empty.

Scoob tanks aren't flat at the bottom due to the propshaft - the jet pump (its not a electric pump, its just a passive siphon device) is supposed to get fuel from one side of the tank to the other. Those suffering from the ill fated fuel surge probably indicates its doesn't work (or never has worked from new LOL ).

I only use Momentum with 2ml of NF Nitros Race formula to each litre of fuel and never had a problem. I have a MY97 Type-R standard except for full 3" exhaust with sports cat and HKS panel filter and no remap.

Hi Yardz, If it's now running ok, I'd guess you just had a bad tank. I'm assuming from your post that you fill up at either station, but can you remember which one you filled up at before it started playing up? If so go & have a chat with them.

Whilst I tend to agree with some views on Tesco and trusting them I have to accept my car runs better on the fuel they sell and I agree with your findings on Nitro... I ran for a couple of months on Nitro, consumption was poor and my car was a complete dog, low on power and rough idle. I changed back to Momentum and the sparkle returned

Googling Tesco fuel problems, or even Tesco momentum problems throws up a lot of results.
Even searching similar on here over the years will throw up quite a few scoob owners who have had a misfire after filling with Tesco.
Some people swear by it, I for one will never use Tesco fuel again.

Have you searched on here for any Impreza owners that may have had problems with Tesco fuel?
I live in the southeast and clearly remember Tesco fuel destroying a lot of cars a few years back.
There's currently a thread on piston heads regarding problems with Tesco fuel.

Water in the diesel though, not sure petrol is a problem.

I doubt you'll find problems with diesel on here. I'm on my phone but I'll throw up some links tomorrow.

Glad you agree, it's the diesel that's a problem, not petrol at the supermarkets. Diesel being able to absorb water.
I've not been on SN in years with a laptop, always use my phone

Water in petrol is an issue now.

All petrol, Shell Nitro, BP, tesco whatever ALL contains ethanol

Which also absorbs water.

The problem is this combined with the ethanol creates a corrosive environment. Not good for anything metal. Or rubber with the incorrect barrier membrane.

Google it, it mainly bikers classic cars and kit cars have been the first to suffer the consequences due to their infrequent and seasonal use.

So it could affect 1 car in the 100 that fill from that pump?
