Default Subaru Legacy B4 twin turbo engine problem

Hello everyone. Not sure if i need to introduce myself but my name is conor and I have owned a 1999 legacy b4 for a month and a half

Today it developed a problem, no idea what has happened. Local garage think the bottom end is gone.

So the engine is a little noisy but to my ear doesnt like the bottom end. The car functions perfectly until the high turbo spools, at which point the car stutters and the acceleration is rather choppy.

Mechanic thinks the bottom end is knocking and the knock sensor is cutting the fuel at high rpm.

I cant help thinking its just the high turbo, have a used bottom end lined up incase i need to get it done.

Anyone experienced this before?
Thanks in advance
