Default ABW Arches - what wheels??

I'm thinking of fitting abw arches to my type r as i've seen quite a few done and like the look.

Problem is, i've looked around and most are running et20 wheels and the amount of choice is very limited, and everyone seems to be doing xxrs or rotas.

Is anyone on here running these arches with hubcentric spacers? and are 17 or 18 inch wheels preffered?

With 17's theres a lot more choice and a better chance of achieving a nice looking car, although I do like the xxr530 wheels (bbs style) but want to weigh up the options.

I'v seen Andy Forrest use hubcentric spacers with these arches,,
I was very surprised

I have just fitted the newage abw arches to my Hawkeye and will be using hubcentric spacers as I have 4 sets of 8j rims with good tyres, but will be buying 1 set of 9 3/4j wheels with Avon slicks,

But I am not saying you should run spacers,,,, your choice buddy

Thats good info Bez. I've got no issues with running spacers and the wheel choice is better but i'm just not sure what size spacer + wheel works best

I would go as high as a 25mm good quality hubcentric spacer, that should help you work out what size wheel would be best. Tyre wise 255 will be the best all round option and should make fitting a little easier but personally unless running proper power I dont see the point of wide wheels and tyres

Cheers Banny, I was thinking 25mm hubcentric too which would mean being able to use a better range of wheels.

The arches are mainly for looks but I'll be running 400-450bhp once the car is built, 6 speed of course, with full whiteline/polybushed suspension, coilovers etc.

This is why I asked about wheel choice/spacers as i've read that 18's are for show and 17's are for go, so i'd like to find a nice set of 17's with a decent width.

Banny, I've noticed that 5x114 gives a lot more choice wheel wise as the drifters seem to run them and a lot of jap stuff is 114.

I can get hold of a set of widetrack hawk front/rear hubs so do you know if this is a good idea to swap? or is there more involved than just swapping hubs, shocks and brake discs?

Think you will need the driveshafts too but I will double check with big fud, as he has done this to his classic track car

superb, thanks. Someone has mentioned 100 to 114 conversion spacers so I'll look into them too.

Replied to your other thread dude. But you could go 18x9.5 with a 5x114.3 fitment and +15 offset. Most of the high end jap wheels fall in around there. With a 15mm 5x100/114.3 conversion spacer you would end up with an ET of 0.
I've been looking at doing exactly this if I were to put ABW flares on my newage but don't want the usual XXR rubbish that's out there.

the rear shafts are 10mm longer and im sure the struts need changing to line up too.

as said above avoid xxr at all costs,i had a funny turn a while back and bought some.
utter crap! luckily managed to sell them on quite easily.

I'm running an r180 diff/shafts as standard so was thinking of using those driveshafts and just swapping hubs, not the full widetrack setup. Just curious if this is possible but may have to bite the bullet and attempt it as like you say, xxrs seem like a budget wheel and everyones doing them.

Only frayz has mentioned the important et ie the depth on my car i run a 30et 9.5j with 265 rubber was perfect.

You could run a 9j with a 20et and be fine tbh.

Hubcentric you will be fine the cheaper ones are cheap because they are useless.

deffo better to swap to 114 much better wheels available in my view.

The sizes I quoted Fud were what I was looking at for the newage. Wasn't sure how they compared to the classic but thought they would be close.
Are you running adapters to 5x100 hubs or wheels direct to 5x114.3 hubs on your classic?

Here are few pictures of my classic on 17s with ABW arches fitted, with out spacers.
(The last pic shows how they sit in a fraction)

https://www.scoobynet.com/members-ga...k-classic.html

Rota Grids 17x9" ET30 5x100
Tyres 255/40/17

To fill the arches totally I would need 10mm hub cenric spacers.
As Fud said get good ones or not at all!

It is as long as a piece of string...a loose rule of thumb -
But people tend not to have too many issues with quality 10mm spacers
More people seem to hit hub problems once they get to 20mm

Any links to the 114.3 adaptor spacers , that would solve a lot of my next wheel choice issues right out as there's so much more to choose from
