Default Hi guys newbie

Hi guys and gals (if there is any) i'm john, new to the forum, currently on r32oc, i'm the proud owner of a mk4 r32 at the moment, bentleys and bagged. I'm considering selling up and will be looking for a hawkeye soon. Love the golf to bits, and always owned german cars, mostly golfs. I latley seem to have a scooby itch that needs scratching lol. My budget will be 10-12k i'd like one as standard as possible, and then put my own mark on it. Do you guys have any advice on what i should be looking out for, other than the usual stuff? Never owned a jap car so its all new to me, anyway hope to here from some of you guys soon. John.

welcome m8,

Low mileage, full service history, no rust anywhere, pay for independent inspection.

Keep up with your servicing and don't abuse it and any of them can run forever.

:-) Im in a 1997 with 168K miles on the clock

iv had 2 classic subarus over 5 years. So far iv had leaks on the power steering pump, power steering rack, rocker cover gaskets. so I would check these.
Also iv had new radiator cos it was fooked
my 168K had new gearbox 10k ago.

Clutch change is a pain in the *** and expensive to pay a garage so check that for sure.

Listen carefully to the engine after start up from cold to here excessive bottom end bearing noise.

if I was spending that sort of money I would seriously pay for a decent inspection for peace of mind on any car

With a budget that high, go for the STI, saves getting the wrx, then spending a load to get same bhp as STI

Some other guys on here will tell you the best engine to go for, some are better than others

I've owned 4 scoobys, all classic shape, one i got now on 80k owned for years never leaves garage lol

£10-12k budget and ideally looking for a newage hawkeye. Why is everyone talking about classics??

You have a nice budget but people will tell you not to go for a UK hawkeye. With that budget you can get a very nice JDM blob eye (2003-2005). The JDM's are superior to the UK cars. You may be even to stretch and wait for a JDM 2006 model which will have the hawkeye shape. You will also find a UK hawkeye with a forged engine for that money if you wait long enough. You will be waiting a long time though. Other alternatives is a Spec C. Keep browsing through the sales section on here to see what you can get for your money.
