HELP! MOT failure on emissions
#2
Your downpipe cat may have curled up and died? The PPP cars definitely do not have mid-section cats yet still pass MOT's on standard downpipe cat. Do you use octane boosters and if so which one? Some kill the cat. Swapping mid-sections for the day may be only solution, and alot less hassle than doing the downpipe.

Like I have said all along - you NEED at least one CAT in place to pass, legally that is!!
Stick a £50 note under the windscreen wiper - or, simpler, put the cat back on!!

It is possible on a car of that age that the lambda sensor is buggered.
Dont know about uk cars but on wrx sof that vintage, the lambda sensor is in the headers which means it has to survive much hotter temperatures than thopse in the downpipe.
If buggered then the jecs will run the car very rich, and so the emissions will probably be off the chart.
Replacing the lambda sensor could pass you your mot but also, will improve your fuel economy if it is indeed knackered which I suspect it is.
