Default 2.35 - GT35R - White Hawkeye

After tuning my Blob Widetrack from 305 to 450 bhp, the bug bit again and i decided to go for 600 bhp with a 2.1 and GT30 billet.

After contacting a few companies and getting some prices the only real price difference between the 2.1 and the 2.35 was the block and the slightly more expensive pistons. The last thing i wanted was to spend 1,000's of pounds and still have regret. So the 2.1 and GT30 combo went out the window and i decided on a 2.35 with a SC GT35 Billet. Hoping for 650+ BHP on Meth and 700+ BHP on Race Fuel. So there you have it, project creep before the project has even begun. This is going to be a high powered week end car that will be comfortable enough to be used for long journeys as well as for taking family out.

The initial plan was to put all the funds towards building the 2.35 so the project is finished as quick as possible, but after not long at all, i was beginning to lose interest. Buying and collecting parts at home with no car to put them on was annoying me. Therefore i decided to do the project in three stages to stop me from getting bored.

The first stage is going to be a 2.0 Newage STI engine with a SC46. 450 bhp will keep me entertained nicely while the 2.35 is being built. Newage STI engines can be picked up pretty cheap and i'll be fitting myself so it won't cost me that much for the first stage. Although this means that it will take a while longer to reach the end goal, i won't get bored and throw the towel in. The second stage will be the same setup but with the 2.35 engine so that i can run it in, and the final stage will have the full works.

Engine Tuner are going to be doing the building of the engine as the advice given and the level of communication from Alan are top notch.
Simon@JGM will be mapping the car as he has a great reputation and isn't too far.
I will be fitting all the parts as well as the engine, clutch and gearbox etc. I may have to get someone in for the wiring of the external fuel pumps.

Seeing as a lot of the parts on the car will be replaced, i thought i would be better off starting off with a shell rather than a complete car. I put a wanted add up for a Hawkeye shell and was contacted by Scott @ ScoobySpares. They had a Clean Hawkeye Spec D in with only one previous owner and although it was in the higher tax bracket i went for it.

I have decided on the spec of the 2.35, it will be as follows:

EJ22 CDB
Wiseco Pistons
Cosworth Conrods
EJ257 Nitrided Crank
ACL big and main end bearings
RCM 14mm Head Stud Kit
RCM 11mm Oil Pump
Rick Wood CNC Ported AVCS heads
Cosworth S2 Grind Cams
Cosworth Double Valve springs and Titanium Retainers
Cosworth Inlet and Exhaust Valves
RCM Vernier Exhaust Pulleys
Cosworth Kevlar Timing Belt
RCM baffled sump

The heads are fully assembled and ready to bolt on, just waiting for the bottom end now.

I currently have some nice goodies waiting to be fitted once the car has been resprayed to white:

Syvecs ECU with NTK Wideband (Will be converted to Newage PNP)
AP Racing 6 Pot 355mm Front Brake Kit
AP Racing 4 Pot 330mm Rear Brake Kit
WR1 Interior with Rare Jet Black Floor Carpet
AST Sportline Coilovers
Perrin Front Mount Intercooler
Defi Style Speedo
Carbon Fibre Spats
Carbon fibre radiator panel
Mocal 13 Row Oil Cooler
Blitz Nur Spec R
Inovit Redlines (Winter Set)
Zunsport Lower mesh Grill

The shell has been delivered today, so the project begins.

My Hawkeye Spec D(Dangerous).

My winter set of wheels have also com back from a refurb.

Need to source a bonnet, wrx bootlid and a rear bumper support bar so i can fit the rear bumper, after that the car is ready for some paint.

The fuel sender will be sent off for -8 fittings to be brazed on and the metal fuel lines running through the car will be taken out and replaced with braided Teflon coated lines.

I also need to clean up the engine bay for painting.

Thanks

Yes mate, the unused holes will be filled. I'm going to try and get the engine bay looking as nice as possible once the 2.35 and GT35 go in. The 2.0 Sc46 setup may look a little shabby though.

Thanks

Managed to source some sti fog covers. Also been busy buying other parts. I've bought a full hawkeye 6 speed dccd setup and a newage 2.0 sti long engine which I can drop straight in. Now need to decide weather i'll be sticking with the DBW or going cable.

Also bought a complete bonnet with scoop which I still need to collect. And a wrx bootlid which will be delivered some time next week.

Bit of an update.

I'll be staying with DBW to see whether i can get on with it or not, should be ok with the Syvecs it seems. Managed to get a few things done.

Rear R180 114.3 PCD hubs have been fitted along with some super pro poly bushes from Alyn@ASP.

I then got the rear 4 Pot AP's fitted up.

The front 6 pot AP's i had were black and although they ripped your face off, they looked a little worse for wear on the outside. As the rears were already red i sent the fronts off to Godspeed for a refurb.

And after they came back from Godspeed looking sweet:

Got some serious braking power for the car ready for the horses, i'm running ds2500 pads and AP disks all round. Might go for PF in the future but these disks and pads have plenty of life left so going to run these out first. Just need to get some white stickers made up for the lettering.

I also grabbed some bits off Matty@MB developments, a Spec C radiator and a boot lid with a square lock to name a couple.

I decided on buying some XXR alloys in flat black. I needed some rubber to wrap them in and had decided on AD08's when Dbrad put a set up for sale with a lot of tread left. When the tyres and wheels arrived i put them on the car.

The engine bay has also been masked up ready for paint. The car is booked in for a respray next week in 51e White.

Once it comes back from a respray it will be going to a mates garage where he has a ramp so i can fit the engine and gearbox with an exedy twin plate.

Thanks for reading

Great start, get yourself a decent sized sided gazebo and you can work in all weathers (except wind). Looking forward to seeing this one come together

Cheers lads, i should be doing the rest of the work in a garage so should be ok, if not then a gazebo is on the list.

The car has been dropped off for a respray today, i should be picking it up in a couple of weeks, the resprayer just needs to finish a Maserati Gran Turismo and a Ferrari Dino before he starts mine.
