Default hawkeye project help

hi guys ive had a few subarus i love them but have never heavily modded one ive just bought an ihi turbo spec md194 which is just a bit bigger than a vf22 but it is supposed to have a better midrange and less lag was told its like a vf24 with more power. ive bought a front mount intercooler kit 850cc injectors and a walbro 255 feul pump. Just had a 3"straight through exhaust made. Now i have no idea what to do about ecu and the standard 2.5 wrx engine tolerence dont want to put it all on and it go bang lol

does anybody know what a safe (ish) bhp is for it

do i need to change ecu or will it map

do i need a new feul regulator

The 2.5 engine is a bit hit and miss. Mine is running a VF48 turbo now and making 334bhp and 381 lb/ft. Drives just great. Completely transformed. Some are running a lot more than me without problems but its generally only a matter of time. They suffer from ringland failure on the pistons all too easy. Even standard engines fail from this so its a bit of a lottery.

Would suggest you don't run more than 1.3bar of boost after a remap as this is the limit of the standard pistons really. You can remap a standard Ecu no problems, had mine mapped by Duncan @ racedynamix, top bloke. Also used Richard at fb tuning, also top service and A1 mechanic and mapper. There are lots of other great mappers on here like Simon jolly green monster, engine tuner etc etc. All good.

I will be looking to get a forged engine built with pinned block or closed deck block conversion, forged rods and pistons etc, then you should be generally bullet proof for 500bhp.

Is yours an STI or WRX? If wrx then would limit yours to 350bhp to save the gearbox. Even at that level its on borrowed time. Really needs the indestructible 6 speed from the sti.

Good luck with the project. Sounds like you got some good bits already.

I would budget a minimum of £2.5k for a forged engine, but then there will be plenty of additional bits you will need to upgrade to run with it!

If your only looking for 350bhp then this can be achieved with an STI top mount intercooler instead of a full front mount and can be done without having to go forged (for a while anyhow). lol

Think you'll find if you actually ask the guys on here actually running over 600bhp it will cost considerably more than £5k when all said and done. I'd double that quote and add a bit.

600bhp turbo alone would be £1500-2000, rotated turbo kit £1k etc... would definitely be more than £5k

I think 3 times that figure would get you somewhere towards 600.

The engine might be £5k but needs

clutch - good twin plate kit would be £1500
ecu - close to £2k
turbo / twisted kit £2.5k

let alone changes to fuel system, gearbox, brakes, etc etc etc
Dont know why so many people are aiming at that power level for the road - it is pointless IMO - 350-450 is perfect for the road and much nicer.

Yep, my car at current level makes for a perfect roar car in my opinion. There is a big difference between your standard 233 bhp and 350 bhp, trust me! You could end up massively over spending on a car that's no linger suitable to drive on the roads. If your building a full on race car then fair enough, but your spending will have to go up yet another level!

lol ive bought 850cc injectors from you racedynamix
and im thinking after all your advice im going to fit what ive got howard at hdc and matt at trl say i should get 380 with that and drive it see what its like

ive stuck to the figure because i had a r33 gtr running at that but from what ive been told you dont need that power in a scooby

oh and you havent left me any feedback on ebay yet

if your building a road/occasional track day car, as said before 350 to 450 is perfect.
im aiming for 450 ish in my blob sti and can tell you its cost below
turbo sc46 £1295
fmic £400
injectors £300
induction kit £100
3.0 decat exhaust and ported headers with matched uppipe £900
walbro fuel pump £100

then i need to buy an ecu and have the car mapped.

also i have already spent £££ on new suspension, clutch and brake upgrades prior to buying the parts for power upgrades.

If your only now aiming for 380bhp to start with then your standard hawkeye 550 injectors will be fine.
