Hey guys
Thought this might be of interest to some of you . . If not I'll quickly get rid of it.
It's my other pride and rusty joy. My Audi Ur/Wr Quattro 1983.Bought from a guy up near Fochabers just before my 18th birthday August 2009. Was in a very sorry state. After finding out more about them and what i can do with the car i decided on going the long haul of a full bare restoration. . (This is when i light bulb sparked up) Rather than spends literally 10's of thousands getting the car back to a standard but mintish condition. I decided to build a A2 Rally Replica from the 1983 San Remo Rally. So far i am still stripping her slowly (ooohh err misses!!) but nearly done. All that's left on the shell is the rear sub-frame " bloody rounded strut top Allan key hole!!) and the pedal box and steering column and glass.
Plan is to get the whole shell blasted back to bare metal and expose all the rust and ready for cutting out the rear quarter panels for new replacement part's Rally fiber glass items. Weld in a FIA spec roll cage. Then the fun bit, instead of using the original 10valve turbo engine (Dated k Jetronic injection system, very limited parts Aka 700 pound per piston for oversize of 0,05m) Im using a later Audi S2 20 valve turbo engine with motronic and EFI injection. Was also used in the Sport quattro and later the E1 And E2 Fire breathing monsters. Will require quite extensive welding to get her ready . . Not as bad as first feared . . Were the sills are rusted to shreds they will be cut out anyway due to the nature of the build and seam welding the chassis.
Hopefully have one day a 300-400 bhp rally recreation of a timeless classic (in my opinion) that can be used for track days,Hill climbs sprints and tarmac rallies.
Here's a few pictures to help with the drivel i have just written.
When I Got Her:

How she is now:

What i plan to turn her into:

The Engine i plan to use:
will be fully forged and balanced with highly uprated and strengthened valve-train. While keeping the original 5 speed Box

And the 2 project's together. Awaiting there fate.(Blue Audi coupe part's car top left)

Also for anyone wanting to start a project ..for the love of god do not get 2 project's that you intend to get ball's deep in. Your social life, financial situation, love life, health, common sense and sense of time will be severely abused and shortened.

It is quite a labour or love to be honest. Havent had any kids that i know of yet, sou i couldnt possible comment. Just getting the shell back to a good state will be "emotional" lol

Have you considered going the whole hog and building a short wheelbase Sport replica? Admittedly you'd need the front end from an 80 saloon and then cut and shut - a lot more work but the shorties do look the dogs!!!

Will do guy's.
The shed that the car's are in has nearly collapsed due to the incredible windy weather we have had. The whole front end has collapsed missing the Impreza and Audi quattro by a matter of 4 feet!! ( i am talking concrete blocks and steel sheet roofing!!) So i have to move the cars some where else over next few day's. There's a hardly used hay stable shed thing near the bothy i can put them in Hard standing, lighting and electric. So not to much of a downer! Just a right royal PITA!.
Regards the sport conversion:
I have always loved the sport's look and and aggressive lines, However the cost to get it right and some part's that would make a EJ25 CDB seem cheap. The cutting of the shell, it's just to much for me. Also with the shell being a WR Quattro Ill never chop it up. As these cars are getting rarer and rarer each day.
Also the A2 Rally Quattro is my favorite Quattro of all time, Just something about it makes me a bit more giddy lol. Shell have a 20 valve turbo engine witch will share some similarities with a sport quattros Engine (loosely) However it is a great base with strong internals for a Track/Hill-climb/Tarmac Rally Car. With 350 with bags of torque and reliability available on standard internals. While i save up ready for the forged build:P
One day ill try and make a sport.

there has been a deposit laid on a big noisy thing

Also the 6 speed box and engine loom. Phwaaaa.
Even though its had a recent full service and head gasket 8000 miles ago. It will get fully stripped and cleaned for peace of mind.(new bearing and piston rings, clean water and oilways.
Port and polish the head, new retainaners, valve guides, lap the valves, new collets, new springs, slight skim and polish the mating surface's.
baffled sump
new rods (possible)
new oil pump
water pump
lightweight pulleys
lightend flywheel
all fully balanced
new big and small bearings
check the gearbox for wear.clean and new oil.
short shift
undecided on clutch
uprated injectors
custom airbox and piping
motronic ecu
alloy rad
standard inter cooler
new oil cooler that goes under rear spoiler
uprated plugs
standard turbo to start with when running in for first 2000 miles
bosch fuel pump
swirl pot
braided fuel hose
straight through exhaust (unless track days)
Long list and that's without quite a lot of other bit's and pieces (brakes, suspension, drive shafts, diffs, chassis strengthening blah blah blah.
This will be a working in progress project for many year's to come.one that will hopefully stay with me for a long time

ell with Ian Quickly catching up and beating me in the "Stripping" Wr Progress.I thought i might as well make a effort and crack on a bit.
Managed to get the rear sub frame top strut bolt on the driver's side off!! Had to split the actual thread and that just gave it enough for the bolt to loosen off. Might be salvageable . As the nut go's on and off fine now.
Then another **** ache!! one of the sub-frame to body (passenger's side,Rear one) decided to sheer off!! , Managed to get it off after some grinding and smacking around!! And still saved the sub-frame mount and sub-frame it self
With that little lot off it was time for a good look around underneath for any hole's and damage.Thankfully none apart from those serious area's highlighted already:
The Sill's both side need replacing,
Boot floor need's most work.and fabricating done,
Front just up from the jacking point on the arch (difficult to explain were exactly) need's new metal.
Rear Quarters are getting cut out for some new A2 Rear's
New front slam panel ideally
Next job is to remove the pedal box and steering rack...then she is all in the nude. Ready for a angle grinder and wire brush to the underneath!! Also need someone to take the glass out with-out damaging the seal's(So sh*t scared to do it myself)
Now who want's to do some welding and fabricating for me??
Also with the exhaust off. . .a unusual name on the rear back box only see the last half of it " Spacher " ?? Any one know if these are non standard exhaust's. Also can they be mated up to a 20 valve down-pipe? As it suit's the car perfectly and would love to have it on the finished car. Apart from a bit of exterior rust on the back box all is well with the exhaust!!!
The sub-frame all seems solid with the usual rusty deposit's dotted around.Yet no penetration. will need new wishbones. Rear diff might be sold already so will hopefully have the rear sub-frame gone as well soon. and the prop-shaft as it's no use to me going to 6 speed s2 box.
Also here's a pic of the new front sub-frame look's nice. . on the lookout for a RS2 F-ARB and new wishbone's.
Apart from that pulling apart there's no real progress to report
Will get the picture's up soon once my phone decides to sort it's life out!!
