Impreza WRX RA by devil's garage from Poland
Hello from Warsaw!
I already wrote about my car here thread but wanted to start a proper Project thread.
My story began in May 2010 when I bought a 1995 WRX type RA in UK and drove it to Paris. Ufortunaely a bearing spun on the french autoroute and the car had to be trailored back to Poland.
I'm now in the process of rebulding the engine and converting the car to LHD. As a donor car I got the parts form a N/A 1.6 Impreza.
The plan is to rebuild the engine to the spec it had before 320bhp and drive it as a daily after conversion.
I'll let the ictures speak for themselves now :
MODEL: 1995, Subaru Impreza WRX type RA,
engine: MY04 STI short engine in with new head gaskets and checked the heads, head studsi ARP,td05 16g, cosworth baffle plate, ESL remap of the stock ECU, MOCAL oil cooler and oil filter relocation kit
K&N filter , custom FMIC, CAI , full milltek system with cat
tuned by ZenPerformance to 320hp

Bye Bye UK roads

Bearing all over the sump:

Conversion in progress:

Some more progress:
Update
Some progress

And some extras:
aluminium brace

Nardi Gara :

stay tuned
All the parts left rom the conversion will be for sale. If You need sometinhg just contact me.

Did some further work today.
The dash I got was from the 1.6 N/A version and was grey, not black like the rest of the interior. Most people doing the conversion go for the flocked dash, but I didn't want to do that. Fortunately I found a solution: VHT Vinyl Dye spray
Et Voila:

interesting project... given the limited availability of LHD sti's near where I live and the ridiculous prices... I might have to do one of these conversions when I finally become unbroke and buy a money pit
most likely from the uk!
most likely from the uk!
nice to see a lhd conversion
Are you using the 1.6na steeringrack ?,
Also is the sterringcolum the same just moved from the righthandside to the left?.
Do you have a complete donorcar, or do you know exactly what is needed?
i do also think about dooing this to my type r during the next winter
Thanks,
Skassa

I had only the needed parts from a 1.6 N/A donor. I had about 90% of what's needed. I have detailed pictures of evry step of the conversion so if You have any questions just let me know
The steering column is the JDM one moved to the left. Fits no problem.
The steering rack is from N/A. If I happen to have some spare money in the future I'll look for a newage spec C one which is quicker.
So spent another weekedn working on the car.
It didn't look to promising at the beginnig but after 3 days the interior is almost finished:
What a mess:

A bit better:

Quite nice!

I spent the last few days int he garage and the conversion is almost finished now.
The calipers have been refreshed and they Subie got a set of HEL braided brake lines. Next up a SPA design double gauge for oil press/temp. and a Omori boost gauge.

The reason is we are not allowed to register RHD cars.
It will also be easier to drive in that form, and other thing is they were never made in LHD version so this will be a bit more extraordinary than a regular Impreza turbo from that period.

Next update is there
With the interior beeing assembled now the conversions is finished.
Some screws that were missing were ordered in Japan

Some extra gauges - I want to keep the car a sleeper so they are fitted above the radio with no stuff on the dashboard or pillar.

I am waitng for the engine to be overhauled now. It will be uprated with Mahle pistons and Manley rods.

The engine is already assembled. A few more parts to install.
New timing set
Thermal isolation for the downpipe and FMIC pipes
plugs etc.
Oil, fuel filter
I'm assembling the rest of the parts tommorow and I hope the engine will ne in the car by the evening.
stay tuned ! ! !

Interesting, I'm probably going to do this conversion on my Type R too. Did you use the wiring loom for the ecu and other electrical components from the 1.6 or did you get them from a LHD turbo model? As I understand the wiring is different from LHD to RHD.

Yet yesterday we did some welding and basically all the pedal mounts and wiper mount are welded in place
