Good luck.

Will the front wheels be able to turn with the width of the subaru engine between them?

Hmm might be an intresting fit... Will you be going for rear engine 4 wheel drive? or will you be trying to squeese the engine in the front?

Im sure the impreza engine is about the same size as the car lol

My thoughts are where would the gearbox go?? but man if you pull it off that thing will be hellawicked.. I toyed with the idea of dropping an ej20 into a Toyota Starlet a year ago.. decided engine was too wide...

Good luck!!!

hey cheers for comments so far, i have taken a lot of measurements before buying the donor yeah things are gunna be tight and there is a lot of engineering involved, its basically going to be a space framed mini at the end so should be good, i have worked with wrc rally cars in the past for a while doing build and mechanics so gives me a good start. and well the latest engine to go into a mini shell was a cosworth v6 24 valve so if that fits then should be plenty of room with the impreza

Looking forward to this one. Seen a v8 mini so an impreza engine should be fine. Good luck

it is basically going to be a heavily modified space frame to take running gear engine etc with a mini on the out side lol

Sounds like it should be a beast once done. Any chance this will fit in the other mini (not the clubman)? Pretty sure I saw an AWD cosworth mini a few years a ago... clubman as well.

Right it has been a while so this will be long heres goes

update sorry its been a while the riley elf is finished hooraa lol pics below and update on the project the subaru shell is now in the middle of the workshop getting stripped down about bloody time lol so heres some pics for you

heres the finished elf

and stripping of the subaru

start getting engine out this week along with prop, gearbox so i am left with a rolling shell for measurements then all rest of the dash and wiring loom splitting it as i go so hopefully eng up with just a engine loom lol

some more progress pics engine and box are out need to start to remove the loom and all brakes etc from the car and split the loom down then its grinder/plasma cutting time lol heres a few pics for you

easy way to move a subaru

engine lined up roughly and looking good

more to follow hopefully get down there more in the evenings after thursday

cheers for the comments guys, Beermini yeah the engine will sit much lower in the end that was the only box i had to rest it on lol heres a pic of the workshop at the moment after i did some moving around with the forklift last night heading back down shortly

got loads done today so heres some more pic updates for you wish i could strip a mini as quickly next task is all the running gear i think well maybe fuel tank brake lines etc for definate

heres the wiring loom that i have some how got to strip down to just a engine loom should be fun

well been a little while but heres a update so a few pics for you

got the plasma cutter out and working so got cutting
heres the results

Eventual wheel clearance

so what are your thoughts still loads of fabricating to do
and pionters would be great

Looks like a cracking project!
What size brakes are you going for? Those wheels I believe can only take 2 pot front calipers. I'd consider getting a set of 16" Subaru wheels or bigger on there to measure wheel clearence in the first instance as these will allow you to fit 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears

They'll only take standard subaru 2 pots but if going for after market calipers you may get a set of 4 pots to fit those wheels. Willwood make 4 pots that will fit under 15" wheels and i'm pretty sure comp brake do. It's going to depend on what size discs are going to be run along with wheel offset and internal design of the wheel as well.

Tbh with the weight that this car will be the 2 pots coupled to braided lines, good pads, discs and master cylinder from a newage are going to work pretty damn well imo.

I was thinking about doing this ages ago but figured it would cost loads. Great that you can do it yourself.

That thing will fly!!

Cant wait for the results

What an epic thread/car.

Subscribed! Cant wait to see the next update!

How much this expecting to weigh when finished? Curious as to the power to weight in the finish?

Have you seen the Z-Car minis? http://zcars.org.uk/new/mc.php

I dread to think what projects I'd dream up if I had a workshop that size.

Anyway, I'll be watching with interest - very ambitious, good luck.
