Default Importing a 2.5L

I'm planning to send a full spec 2.5L to my friend in the UK and wondering if there are any paper works that need to be done. It'd be very useful if anyone could tell me the tax and other fees associated with importing the complet engine or let me know where to look for info. There are actually 2 options 1) is to send the full forged bottom end and have the guy find the head himself or 2) is to send the whole engine, if there'd be any difference in the tax or regulations.

Thanx....

Regulations aren't really an issue, there will be customs forms to fill out, but nothing too heavy, your friend will however have to pay duty and VAT on top of that for the engine and the carriage...

Something like:

Engine Value Say = 2000 GBP
Shipping Value Say = 500 GBP
Duty for arguments sake at 20% (not sure of the actual figure) = 500 GBP
VAT 17.5% of the whole lot ie 17.5% of 2000+500+500 = 525
GBP

So to get the goods released from customs a total to pay of: 1025 GBP

The old 'marked as gift' routine also doesn't seem to work quite as well as it used to, and an engine tends to get noticed, unlike a jiffy bag

You also have to consider the courier you use carefully because some of them can be very devious when it comes to 'handling charges' for filing the correct customs documentation, as I've found the hard way

Warrenty replacement might... or marking the value down to 2nd hand price will help...
