Exclamation motivation required...!

New project time
With a specific jobcard of track/hill climb/sprint and the occasional delve into the world of 1/4m dragging.

I have a daily hack to take care of the daily drudge into work, so it doesn’t really have to maintain any road manners whatsoever, nor does it have to be back together for Monday mornings.

So I bought an sti RA bought as a rolling shell I managed to secure a few bits and bobs along the way to ease the progress.

The problem I have is this, having fettled the green car to 370bhp 380 ft-lbs, my knuckles have healed, the scars are gone and the weekends are my own again.
I need motivation to get up and running and get spannering again on the new beasty, and its proving harder than I thought!

Presently the deadline is TOTB (this year!) but Im not sure now that all the work can be completed in time, I will give it my best shot, but Im relying on others and cannot be held (too) responsible.

Photos tonight, updates as/when anything interesting happens….

My mind is drifting to similar things with my nice little road car.

I can only think this:

If you paid 'nothing' for the car but it has no engine box then gut it fully.
Plastic panels (just where do you get light panels from??)
Plastic glass except the screen
Buy the 2.2 currently for sale on here (450 bhp?) and the Sti 4 engine too.
5 speed ppg.
AST's all all that jazz
16'' rims and slicks.
6 point roll cage welded in.
One seat low down.

Starts to look like this (sorry for the repeat)

De-motivators: Cost and Forrest/Zen et al have gone further.
Motivator: Great fun to do, and very effective when done.

Not sure if this has helped

Graham

pics for fellow projecteurs

the garage!
the donor engine
the donor gearboxes
the important bit!
rear diff 4.444
the turbo
turbo again, 20 deck for scale
the defi,s EGT and F/Press
the ecu
thermostat (71degs)
looking forward to playing with this
inner door with manual winders
yes, its an RA
the interior, 1 bucket seat and a harness
clocks with dccd display
diff controller
3.9 rear diff
yep, its still an RA

that should give you an idea as to my intent with this car
The engine is the first thing to receive attention, I looked long and (very!) hard at the 2.2 'kit' in for sale but decided I needed a touch more freedom on the spec, it is undeniably good value though.
I have bought/am buying mainly 2nd hand and (hopefully) quality parts to keep the overall cost (just about) bearable, but also to aid in the split/recoup should I decide to punt it out anytime.

more to come as calls have been made

Good man

LOL at the garage: you sure it is and not an autojumble.
Dead jealous of the gearbox.
Don't suppose the scrap one is a V3 or later??

Excellent.

I think in the short term I am going to whip the 3.9 diffs and dccd into the phase 2 casing which currently houses an sti6 gearset.
I know a ppg is going to become a necessity but I need at least 2 paydays betweeen engine and box!

this means I will be selling a full 4.44 diffset and an sti my95 gearset and casing, somehow dont think it would make a great box mating both together LOL

Not this time Steven, I am on a tight enough schedule as is, and this hybrid came up so it will do a job. Full rotated gt30 or 35 will cost a packet and will make proper gearbox crunching power.

Wink motivation administered.....

Andy mate - you want motivation, well I'll give it to you.

I'll state now for the record that when your car is up and running that I'll kick your *** in any event other than a straight 1/4. , with mine as it is in it's current state (well, maybe with the addition of equal length headers and remap).

So roll on the Scooby Speed Challenge event on Aug 5th/6th at Kames (bloody long way I know - for us Mushers )

LOL.

Update

Well, I had a plan to get me on the road in the interim and it has backfired
I had a spare ej20 from a 96wrx that had a head gasket fail, I buy new gaskets, torque them down and get running.
hhmm, having stripped back the sump/pick up etc and the R/H head it looks like there might be bore scoring and the possibility of some play in no.1 rod.
upeshot? not worth the risk putting it together.

So tonight Im helping a mate hang a garage door in return for some spanner time tomorrow evening.
need to strip the ej20 cdb of its heads, rods, pistons and crank etc and get the bare block to SMG tuning (Steve Guirey) for some magic wand waving

more to follow

"tide you over engine" now being raped of parts on the engine stand
CDB EJ20 being stripped back to bare tonight and being shipped out this week/end.
Engine builder on board as of this morning
Parts procured so far for build.....

phase 2 crank (OE)
CP pistons/rings etc
Pauter rods
bearings (main/rod)
14/12 ARP studs
Cometic head gaskets.

problems to overcome:
my complete lack of knowledge of a phase 1 engine!
I need coils and I also need to know what the extra lump on the manifold is to the offside slightly from the TB.

on the inlet manifold, to the nearside, there is a bolted on lump with a grey electrical clip to the top of it, its not on phase 2 manifolds at all
