Default Sprint/Hillclimb Car Rebuild

Been beavering away this winter building this.

Took it to Andy.F the other day to have him map the new Apexi ECU and get him to make it go fast...... something he appears to be most excellent at, as follows.

0-60 3.1secs
0-100 6secs
1/4 11.1secs (had to lift before the end as I caught traffic)

Why are the topmounts not on the way to give you negative camber?

Top mounts look set to give max castor and camber Mark, pics a little small to be sure though...

Enough camber can be got with the bolts without going mad with the position of the top mounts.

Cheers Andy

I might swap the position of mine then to give more caster and less camber

It's plain silly how many hot engines are being built.
It just puts TOO much pressure on mere mortals to follow!
That looks just so nice John, and fabulous results at the end of it all.

I cannot remember if it is a 2.33? Fancy it is.

Lots of food for thought in those pics, and i will be very interested to see what happens to the times at your favourite hill climbs/sprints.

Also interesting is the re-routing of the FMIC with the inlet and you have left the cam belt covers off too....is that wise?

Great car John, and if any EVO's come sniffing I hope you will extinguish (sp) them.

If you are willing a spec sheet would be nice!

Well, a mixed bag day, had our problems but no point in dwelling on them, Mark, yes I would install top mounts 90deg round and use camber bolts for that job.
Yes wee battery and an Anderson connector for boost if needed.

Killed class record by 2.4 secs, on first un-compromised run, bit tentative, needed to do it by 2 secs so excellent result for me (if only I could judge my 0.1 secs better) Currently leading Scottish overall as well as class, but only one event done so I think that may change somewhat.

2 evo's dispatched today, one from Extreme Motorsport Evo II RS, one from Cords outfit, Evo V RS. Two Scoobies, DRB5s old RA, and Glenburgie Subaru's latest offering (really well prepaired quick car), one Saph 4x4, Civic type R, Cosworth powered mk1 GRP4 Escort, Rover 220, Sunbeam Lotus.

Doug, no, it was a customer car. Kevin Murray of Turrif, first time at Kames. He did some excellent (and consistant) times.

How did Al get on John?

I'll bet he didn't think it was that hard, before he got in and competed!?

He did fine, a wee 180 spin at paddock bend, just went in a bit hard. Ended the day on 96s. The car spat out 5th gear last week by the way, so I'm putting a WRX 5th in(0.825) to give him a cruising gear.

As they say before a race,

'Dissengage brain....'

Going EVO hunting myself this weekend, but with a 2 litre 20g I'm not too hopeful....but you never know.
Good news is the EVO driver is even older than me!

John doesn't need to do that...."live life to the full" John say's, while staring blankly at the engine bay of his scoob.

Good luck to you, Graham. Maybe the Evo driver will have a panic attack!

Hi,

graham I rad somewhere, the 2.0L engine was better than the 2.5...if this was true than why the major "tuning" starts with changing the engine to 2.5?

What I love about John is he posts a couple of pictures of his great looking car then disappears for months. In the mean time I'm left here wondering who's gonna answer all my questions about the above car.

COME BACK JOHHNNNNN

I think he stalks these pages watching carefully....

Great start to the season for you John, I hope it keeps rolling!
I think I'm lucky he is up north and Mark is down south.

Mark: you must have it going by now?

There is no substitute for capacity, and a fat flat torque curve (plateau?) that comes with a 2.5 as opposed to a peaky 2.33?
I think John has proven me wrong so far!

Noticed almost all the fast Impreza's are in the north? (ie noth of Birmingham)

The rev limiter hit is deliberate. Graham, it's a 2.5. At the moment

Thanks Graham, the work Andy.F has done has transformed the car from something that was fast to something that is Ballistic.

Right

1. What's the rating of that battery?
2. What injector size are you using?
3. Got any other pictures?
4. Is this the same short engine from last year?

PS Graham got distracted rebuilding the clio for my friend, hopefully should be sorted this weekend, just need to find a battery!!
