Jay, go to your garden centre and look for some 'Hozloc' diffuser spray nozzles. These provide a real mist, just what you need! Cost is about £3.99 or something. Worked for me.

Sorry jay, missed a bit. I use my Sti washer bottle with 2 pumps, I adapted the rear screenwash/wipe function/switch to do my TMIC spray. you must use plain (tap) water, no screenwash, as the foam would be formidable!

Yes! Just use the STi washer bottle, made for 2 pumps, front and rear screems. Use the rear pump for the TMIC spray.
Job done.

On V5 man's car I put a washer bottle in the boot and ran the hose down the car and wired it up to a switch on the dash All the bits came off of a crashed rover so it was free

I did this with Subaru supplied washer jets (can't remember the part no) which fit neatly into the indentations in the undertray. Nothing wrong with using screenwash in it IMHO, you can squirt using the headlamp washer button.

I used to squirt on the main straight at Knockhill where you get to speed and the intercooler can really work well. Not sure it made a dramatic difference.

Interesting you say that John. Hill climbing my Stiv3, the TMIC gets realy hot waiting to race due to the heat absorbed from the engine ticking over. The spray will not quench the TMIC fast enough.
I found if I soaked the TMIC with very cold water (as in drowned it) so it was stone cold, added iced water to the washer bottle(my reservior for the spray) and kept regular water spray while waiting to run, I got better times!
The stock Sti TMIC is very light (less thermal mass) than the aftermarket unit which was 50% heavier so held much more heat, eapecially the chambers.

I realy am not sure it is all worth it, BUT, good fun to try!

Anyone thought about hooking up this kind of system to a microswitch under the Go pedal? - Kind of how a lot of people activate NOS when armed...

Thats a bloody good idea. Many times when I hill climb the car I forget to switch it on!
Better still, have the spray triggered and set to run via a simple timer, once triggered, 'spray for 30 seconds till reset (by the throttle switch)' This way you get auto switch off too. I'm thinking this purely for competition purposes, doubt it makes a difference on the open road.
Thanks!

Good call.. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to implement!

Damn got me thinking now! hehe

I can feel my first mod coming on.. probably very little if any gain but would be a nice little toy to have. *pub talk purposes*

Have a read of the Autospeed features on this (via Google). TPS control alone is arguably not the best method.

Try to use deminiralised water in the bottle. If you don't and you have chalky water then the calcium will block the jets after a while, as well as making a mess of your scoop/intercooler.

dont reno 5 turbos have a kind of boost related adjustable switch in there engine?

use that so it only comes on when you have more boost then usual or sumthing
theres a class article on one of the sizes about water spray and such, they recomended fitting the inteligent spray computers and stuff, but the advice was sound enough regards actualy useing the spray and when, might have been a autospeed site?

i found it through google

Just use a pressure switch from ERL/AQUAMIST. Set it to whatever boost pressure you want, and it will activate when it hits that target!!

That's what I did

Instead of using water would you not get better cooling effect from a CO2 based spray in gas form. Triggered by a temp sensor on the inlet manifold.

Default IC SPRAY

What I have done is used the headlamp washer motor to power the screen washers and the headlamp washers using a T piece conecter, and you just swap the electrical conections over . 3ft of washer pipe and a washer jet that sprays a nice fan over the intercooler from halfords (pink) then just use the headlamp washer switch. Works well in hot weather..

Got my water spray from the headlamp washers connected through a relay and to a switch near the handbrake, the mist is made by the hozelock nozzles which are ideal for the job (i have 3 nozzles left if anybody wants them for a minimal fee!!) it comes on for 2 secs and off for 3, seems to work well but drinks water!!!
