Ok the first mod I did was to upgrade the intercooler to a STi7 one, bought of eBAy for a bargain. I believe they are about 20% bigger than the standard unit.
easy to fit, ecu thought it was interesting and drank a tank of fuel in about 150 ish miles but then settled back to its usual consumption.
I also fitted the samco inlet hose at this point too (bought for a bargain of course)

right decision time, what to do next!
after various searches and constantly watching the 4 sale section and of course eBay
next item fitted was Hayward & Scott 01- full system
decided to not go for a full 3" system but 3" downpipe with 2 1/2" system
shown in the pic is also the OBX headers from the group buy but these were fitted much later

now at this point I decided to search for all the bits I would need and the shopping began!
all these bits were to give me my target of 300+ bhp
fuel regulator
up rated fuel pump
Turbo?
Which filter/intake
oil catcher
flywheel
injectors
samco's
earthing kit
knocklink
boost gauge/pod

While waiting for all the bits to turn up and finding out I had fitted incorrect pipes to my turbo and was only doing 0.7 bar boost. Time for another rolling road, oh and throw in a dawes device just so I don't come last as usual
just to add a green panel filter was added at this point and earthing kit
252 BHP
194lbf-ft

Interesting that you lost a bit of torque but gained power? would have thought that the torque figure would have gone up with the dawes.. lol
Makes the next bit more interesting

right bits turning up fast and furious now
decided to change the front pulley to one made by perrin
new and old
very easy to fit no need to remove radiator, just loosen belts/remove and stick car in 5th gear remove old pulley and fit new. You will maybe need 2 ppl and a good torque wrench.
iridium spark plugs fitted aswell, bought back from canada for 1/2 the price they are here!

so time to get the fuel system ready for the big day
I feel fuelling is very important so went for the best
fitted a SX regulator
fitted up rated fuel pump on the same day, much easier to do with the fuel system already de pressurized

So the big day has arrived
fit headers
OBX headers wrapped and ready to go on
headers almost on and ready to blow
fit injectors
fit turbo
remap
all in one day
the turbo
the clearance of the water pipe underneath the TD05 as tight and needed adjusting with a hammer
the top water hose needed hammer adjustment too as it was in the way of the intercooler.
The TD05 has more alley on one side of the housing than a TD04 and this needed grinding off to clear the engine, you can see this on the right hand side of the picture above just above the waste gate actuator.
you can not reuse the TD04 water pipes as the fitting are bigger as is everything on the TD05

The headers
These take the longest to do, not fitting them just all the bits of armor subaru fit round the oem ones. Especially where the up pipe connects to the turbo.
when we fitted the turbo we connected the up pipe to it, to make things easy
now a lot a ppl have had problems with the OBX headers, so did we. The bolts provided to connect the headers to the up pipe in our case were no ever going to get tight enough and when we started the engine they were blowing, not a major problem as good old subaru always leave you with a big pile of nuts and bolts left over when you do any modes so we reused the nuts and bolts from the oem headers, job done

the injectors
very easy to fit but only once you have removed the radiator header tank various armor plated covers and the washer bottle
then remembered how it all went back together again
purged the system adjusted the fuel pressure, turn the key
the car started all ok not even a cel light scary stuff, 380 to 505 injectors with out any complaints.

so mapping time
well you don't want to hear how we drove around @ various national speed limits and set up the car do you
so here is the results
readings are for a third gear run
car still needs a bit of adjustment as there is still some knock detected in 5th gear, but no rush as the turbo is getting bedded in.

so did we do it all for 2k
well we did, once you take into account me selling my prodrive backbox, spoiler, TD04 and inlet hose. Buying 80% of the parts from the usa and canada, group buys and ebay.

Fuz,
Cool report - interested in the oil catcher as I suffer from IC oil contamination. Where did you get it, is it easy to fit, did you really use garden hose and how much approx??
Also interested in where you got the TD05 from and who refurbed it for you?
Too many questions
LoFi

Very impressive Fuz!!
Where did you get your front strut brace from? Is it a genuine STi one or a replica? Did you notice any difference after fitting it? Am considering one for my 01 wrx!!
Cheers
Nick
