Inner rear wheel arch question.
Hi,
This is a picture of the inside of the rear wheel arch facing outward, on my Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 (97). I've marked an area in red on one of the photographs as I'm curious as to whether this area is meant to be completely covered or the space is there. Would be interested in seeing a picture of what it's meant to look like.

I've got a similar problem on both sides of my GC8. They are where two panels are pressed and spot-welded together. It is open because the two pieces of thin steel have corroded and simply vanished like Obi Wan Kenobi.
You need to weld that area up with fresh steel as it is a complete MOT fail even though that area isn't massively structural. You will need to strip out the strut and lateral arms. It's a job for a mechanic with a lift who can weld. Failing that you could strip it apart then get accepted into a uni course like me and it will sit there for two years 🤣
Common fault. Good luck mate. Honestly, you'll need it.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I've had to have both sides done for the MOT this year, since I posted the message. I agree hardly structural but sadly no choice.
