Thought Id start a project thread as its always useful to get some help and pointers along the way
I was after a project and after having a couple of imprezas in the past I stumbled across this one, a mouldy, partly stripped v2 sti cat c, a bit green on the outside but a solid shell with nearly no corrosion
I can't decide whether to go standard and clean or spend on fancy bits ie wheels, suspension etc etc. Either way I'm not looking to go silly on the engine. The car will not stand me at much if I go standard so I'm swaying towards that atm
Standard is worth more ( but v2 parts are hard to come by if you want to do it right , as I’ve found , a genuine v2 sti steering wheel can be £200 alone ) I had the same dilemma so have just gone for subtle mods wheels , brakes , etc etc
The rear shocks were missing so when to pick some up at a local breakers but these caught my eye instead
I've decided to go standard apart from coilovers and front brakes, I want to upgrade to the subaru 4 pots
Still trying to find a steering column with keys at a reasonable price
Can anyone advise on the metal fuel pipes that run on the left hand side in the car.
The grommets at either end look as though another pipe should go through as well
Blimey, that dash looks like new. Nice job. What brand spray is it?
Thanks, Im quite proud of that dash, this is the stuff i used some satin black on the really bad white bits and then a few coats of this
Well worth spending 8 quid..
Need to sort an exhaust out. It came with a 3 inch system Inc decat downpipe but I want something pretty quiet.
I was thinking a smaller middle section with cat and a prodrive backbox.
I would like a standard system but proving hard to find...
Nice project. I have always wondered though. If your going to spray a dash to refurb it why not use a Matt finish to prevent glare? It seems so obvious or am I missing something?
I think it's the pic that makes it look so shiny. It isn't actually that glossy, time will tell when I drive it and can't see a thing for the sun.
Then I will have wished I flocked it..
Found a standard sti cat and back box on type ra for 35 quid. The car has a decat downpipe already so have left that on.
Finally found a spoiler lamp too
Well. This is a mess.
There is far too much stuff missing to be able to put it back to standard without spending a fortune.
So todays jobs, remove the ac system. The condenser is bent and a pipe is cracked.
Remove the manifold to paint it. It also has an aftermarket pressure reg so I'm going to remove the metal pipes under the manifold and do a parallel fuel mod and remove the evap pipes just purely to simplify the system and tidy everything up.
I want to create a bead or roll in the metal fuel pipe where I'm going to cut it and join rubber fuel hose to it just after the bend from the rail. A bit like the pic below but I want the added security that the pipe can't come off.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Found some 8mm compression fittings in garage, compressed the olives on and cut the nut off. It would have probably been OK without but I have had a couple bad experiences with fuel and fire.
