Default Forester STI Forged Build

Picked up my 2006 forester sti back in June, got it at a decent price as it needed a bit of work, the last owner had the car 2 months from new and the service history and receipts are unbelievable! It’s been at hypertech for a wee while now getting a forged rebuild, closed deck block, 14mm studs ect.. looking to make a good bit of power.
The valves were pretty badly carboned up and needed replaced just to save any problems in the future so went for new supertech valves, springs and new guides so the heads were sent down to AS performance ( who’s done all the engineering work ) to clean up the heads a press in the guides. Was down seeing Duncan yesterday and he’s just waiting on some buckets coming in to get the clearances spot on, when I say a few i mean 12 at £37.50 + vat

They should be in Monday/Tuesday and hopefully I’ll get the car back in 7-10 days, can’t wait

will get get some photos up later tonight

Very tempted with a Forester STI for my next car but I do circa 20,00 miles a year with work so I suspect the fuel bills will get pretty old pretty quick

Nice looking car chap good luck with the build

Not too sure on the fuel with it tbh hardly had a shot in it haha. I’m sure it will be shocking though . I had to get the car picked up on a recovery motor, I didn’t think it would even start because the previous owner suspected the block was cracked and it had been lying for a few months. Managed to get it started when I got it home but I could never give it a good thrash because of a leak in the coolant system. Seemed to drive fine but as soon as you gave it any beans it would overheat within a few minutes. Think this was due to a cracked radiator so ordered up a mishimoto one.
next time your up scotty tell him to get a move on, I’m getting desperate

Things coming together now . Possibly picking up the car tomorrow after work as long as there’s no issues.

Picked up the car last night after work, everything sounds mint except the twin plate clutch sounds like a bag of bolts when the pedal is pressed and It’s a lot harder than I thought to use but might just take some time getting used to and some time to bed in. It was the xtreme twin ceramic with lightweight flywheel. Also there was an issue with the crossover pipe that we ordered Duncan had to modify it as the 2.5 in the forester must be different from the Impreza. He had done about a hundred miles in the car before I picked it up and changed the oil after about 50miles I think, I’ll be back after about 400/500 miles for another oil change. It’s running on semi synthetic just now before I can get fully synthetic in it closer to 1000 miles. Taking it nice and easy for the run in only taking it up to 2500rpm, it still used 1/4 of a tank doing 60ish in 6th gear getting home only 35 miles away hahaha!

next mods I think are going to be upgrading the fuel system, afr gauge, tgv delete tidy up the manifold and other bits in the engine bay. Cars going in for an MOT today too
I’m thinking about getting the car mapped after the run in, not for more power but just to make sure it’s running right. Its going to take a wee while to save up for a turbo, front mount etc and just don’t want to risk driving it hard if it’s not running perfect. Not sure what to do

Nice spec of engine there. Should be lovely and a great base to expand on. Well done for saving one rather than scrapping it!

Few advisory’s on the MOT, got an offside ball joint to do and a couple corroded brake lines to replace. I was looking at the white line kit that comes with the tie rod end but ended up getting 2 ball joints from Pentland components that will do for now. So hoping to get those in tomorrow.
Covered 400 miles with the car now too so il be up at hypertech through the week for an oil and filter.

Ball joint in this morning, only took about 40 mins much easier with the use of my mates ramp. The bolt that holds the knuckle and ball joint together needed a bit of heat to free it off, was close to snapping without it, but wasnt too much hassle. Also got my side spats on, they still need painted but I’ll just wait until I get the whole car done at some point.

LoOking great. I’m sure Duncan will look after you.
Forged 2.5 makes a great road car set up.

Nice early spool. Just pick the right turbo.
Plus there is not always need to go front mount.
The oem top mounts is good for over 400 or try a chevron top mount intercooler.

The OEM FSTI top mount is much smaller than the Impreza newage STI top mount. It's essentially a WRX TMIC with STI sprayed on it.

Really, I didn’t realise that. Plan is to go front mount anyways. Mishimoto I think

Yep, the Forester STI was cobbled together from loads of parts Subaru had around at the time, which included the WRX intercooler. lol. Still seem to make good power using this, but certainly benefit from a larger TMIC or front mount.
