I know this is the place for 'serious' build threads and projects but i Thought a few of you may be interested in my not so serious track slag project. So here goes.
I bought the car when i was 19 years old, i had gotten my first 'real' job and thought it was a great way to spend all my hard earned cash. On the same day i signed on the dotted line and picked up my black blob WRX i was laid off from work. A smarter lad may have took the car straight back to the garage and begged them to cancel the finance and take the car back but i was completely besotted with the thing.
After being laid off i SORNed the car, went to college and part time work and most importantly began work on the car. The Finance was paid off yesterday and this is what has transpired in the last 3 years. Please bear in mind this isn't a serious time attack or drag build and is funded entirely by your average 19 - 22 year old.

Thanks man, its been a pain in the **** having to choose between subaru or food - especially while i was a student for a year haha.

I'd like to get my Clio turbo on SLS next year. We could be in the same class as well.

It was only student money for 1 year, I was lucky and got a job as an aircraft mechanic for ryanair so that's helped alot lol
Alot of it has been DIY but I couldn't have done it without a massive help from Paul at Shennan motorsport. All round great lad and has taught me a **** load aswell as corrected many of my mistakes haha
Well the end of the month draws closer and with it, payday!
On the cards for what im hoping will be the last large single expenditure blowout this year are:
safety devices 6 point weld in cage
a plumbed in extinguisher
voltex rear wing by carbenfibre creations
voltex rear diffuser
voltex canards
zun sport front grille set
a set of takata tow straps
a rain light for the rear
and ive also budgeted for polycarb windows as well but unsure if they can be deemed essential items for the build. they do look killer though.
Does anyone have any experience with 'carbenfibre creations' ?? dont want to splurge 500quid on a big gay wing for it to look mince.

Deffo get that cage in or a harness bar to put those harness on, bolting harness shoulder straps down to the floor is not the right way to mount them at all!
A quick few pics of the cage and wing thats been ordered up. Here's hoping they look as good in real life. Also managed to order everything stated a few posts above and I'm glad to say that's all the big expenses taken care of. Atleast for this stage of its life. Now i can just look forward to fitting everything and getting out on track

Full weld in cage changes thing slightly but on track safety come first.
I don't think it's that serious until it's sole purpose is trophy hunting. Still, it's on its way to a real race car instead of a track slag I guess haha.
Been a wee while since i updated this, had a long wait for a few parts. All the items ordered last month are here and once the cage is in I can fit the other parts. Managed to fit the wing, carbon inlet and other sti bumper parts and wee front lip. Pics below:

Not to everyone's taste undoubtedly. However I do plan to run a flat floor and some other additions. As I work in aviation I have a keen interest in aero and I want to play about with it a bit.
Time for an update; unfortunately not a very pleasant one. The impreza has taken a hit. While parked up some one ploughed into the side of it and things are looking dire. The shell is twisted and sitting on top the driver side wheels as the coilovers have snapped. It's all in the hands of the insurance companies now but I suspect a write off - buy back - reshell will be in order. In which case Itll delay plans of racing next year but atleast I'll get to rebuild it from the ground up.
On a final note I'd like to say how important it is to declare all modifications to your insurer. I almost didn't tell them about the rollcage out of fear they'd double the price but I'm so glad I did. If I hadn't I'd have lost a lot of time and money invested in the car.
Gutted!! Don't worry pal you'll be on your feet in no time especially with being straight with the insurance and it'll be even better than the last
Thanks zany. I hope so and as the initial disappointment I'm beginning to think you're right. Went and seen a blob shell with tubbed arches, fibreglass everything, 2dr conversion and international spec cage. Heres hoping the insurers pay out fairly.
