Default MY98 impreza turbo 2000 :( UPDATE

Hi, thought I would use this thread to show my project impreza and introduce my self.

There is no time scale with this car as it's just a toy, drive an e65 as a daily so wanted something to get the blood running which does nicley.
.
By no means am I a professional and i'm just trying to keep cost's down,I would like to hear any advice/criticism.

car came with some horrible fiberglass skirts which have been ripped of and I'm awaiting an original set I won on ebay, It had a p1 splitter which looked terrible and has also been removed.

here are some pics of how It looks at present

If you're still proceeding with it, please don't kill the thread. Would be nice to see the car after it's been spruced up.

Would suggest two things. Maybe this is the wrong sub-forum for it. Would probably do better in generalgallery. Secondly, "oh god not another blue one...". If plumping for a full respray and not the green - which can be nice, then why not a non-Subaru colour.

Not sure how to move it? did think that after looking through the other projects that this seemed on the low end of the scale.

Nothing is set in stone yet, any suggestions on colour?

Was originally bought to dip my toe into some track days but after reading oil surge and bottom end failures I might just use it as a sunday car, took it to the evo triangle that is local to me and for a 16yr old car it impressed me.

Hello mate, welcome to the forum!
Paint it the original colour and put the factory indicator lenses back on...perhaps some nice 17" rims and decent tyres, service it correctly and enjoy Sunday blasts on those fantastic roads you've got up there...

A fine example of a green classic
Keep the original colour and get it sprayed in the standard mica green

Get some nice gold wheels on it and it will look fantastic

What is the condition of the rear arches as most are showing signs of rust now as the youngest classic is now 13/14 years old

A front P1 style spolier does look good on a classic try ht autos for a new one sensible price
Any rust around the windscreen ?
Let's have some pictures of the engine bay as well

Welcome to the green classics

I assume the arches have been done as there solid,Engine bay is in great original condition not a drop of oil to be seen.

Have checked all the fluids before I started sanding and have not moved in around 500 mile it has been used by me and the engine sounds how it should.

I have all the MOT's from the year 2000.

It has 17" alloys on it there either rb5 or the original speedlines

These types of threads are just as significant, if not more, than the open cheque book threads to me. I love the built not bought idea!

Check my old thread https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...0-refresh.html bear in mind I am no mechanic nor paint sprayer neither did I have a massive budget nor heaps of time - just shows you whats possible if you put your mind to it!!

I have found this site invaluable for knowledge and advice!!

Nice to see you having a crack at the car yourself, you'll feel fab the first time you drive it once its back together!!

Have you decided on a colour yet?

Looking forward to following your progress

*edit* just realised your local! Click the link in my sig below and join our local forum Loads of friendly loving Scooby nuts round here!!

You're a little braver than I am but fair play on what you achieved, debating on keeping it the same colour as suggested. One of the things that swings it for me is not having to do all the door shuts ect.

At the moment it seems I'm undoing every one else's bad work just to get it to acceptable standard on a plus side I haven't run into any rot apart from a little surface bit where the skirts cover but now that's back to metal it's solid.

Is this fitment right ? These are the skirts I got off eBay in 64c and after removing a ton of filler and test fitting Im left with this gap

Does the black strip touch the sill, difficult to tell from the pic tbh!

Maybe take a pic with the door open??

Been to see the car today in the body shop and It's coming along nicely.

It was never planned to be a 3k paint job just wanted a tidy body as opposed to the very poor finish it did have and I must say for how little it is costing me I'm overly chuffed with the results so far although only seen it inside.

hopefully have it back next week,It's only a small body shop/garage so have told him there is no rush/time scale.

Really not sure on wheel colour choice,I'm stuck between black or gold any opinions? believe the wheels are from a rb5

P.S went for 64c mica green the original colour

These are my alloys but in silver which I believe are from a rb5 but have speedline centre badges,I know these are made by speedline but thought the rb5 alloys had a different centre badge either way there not my first choice but will have to do for now as this car owes me more than I will get back.

All the fluids to be changed is next on my list even though it has probably done less than 150 miles since the last oil change, millers 10w40 is what I have in mind have seen it on ebay for £43 inc postage

you have now added anthracite to the list lol

It was going to be gold but quite like the look of this, the green maybe darker but think the black suits it.

I think the wheel gets "lost" with the tyre whn they're painted black.
Anthracite is a good compromise between black and silver tbh

I know its not green but I had Antracite wheels on my old classic (Ford Polaris grey btw!)

another mica green example, delighted

I went for gunmetal (Rotas) on my mica green classic, definitely not black.

Anthracite/gunmetal looks great on this colour..

Gold wheels will look great with the green paint, a bit obvious though?...personally I would go rally slag white and keep the morettes

...and lose the big wing.

Good to see your keeping it green! Wheels wise I'd also say gold or anthracite, white does look good but doesnt work with green imo, better with blues, black, greys.. plus they're a nightmare for cleaning! I had white wheels on a previous car and I used to regularly clean the wheels two or three times before I had to clean the whole car again!

Black works on bolder colours where the paint does more of the talking, maybe white, yellow, bright reds.. but given that mica green is a pretty conservative colour you need something to make it stand out, gold is great for this as not only do the wheels stand out but it makes you see what a nice colour mica green really is. That said if you want to play it safe you can't really go wrong with anthracite, rarely looks stunning but always looks good.

Hopefully get the car back today or the beginning of next week, can't wait to start tinkering

please excuse my poor photoshop skills but have been messing with the wheel colours and stuck between 2 choices gold are anthracite/dark grey posibley matt black.

Few pictures for some opinions, have got some orange side repeaters to go on and may change the indicators to the original orange.
