Default Sti 4 - Cylinder heads, camshafts / short block

From my 1998 Sti version 4, I am selling:

A) Cylinder heads + camshafts - complete £450 ono
B) ***SOLD*** Short Block (minus heads) - good condition - £350 ono - ***SOLD***

The engine has done 123,069, although some key components are newer as they where replaced during a rebuild (big end bearing number 3 failure) that happened at 40,809 miles. So these components have done 82,260 miles. I have the invoice for this work, so can specify which components these are if you're interested.

I'll post pictures soon.

My location is Kent.

Any questions, just ask away...

Some more info on the engine. The engine has been run as "standard" all its life (i.e. no ECU upgrades etc.)

Details of the repair made as part of the big end bearing number 3 failure can be found in this old thread (so you can see what parts where replaced):

https://www.scoobynet.com/drivetrain...breakdown.html

The engine is located at SW Autos ( SW Autos Ltd - Kent's Performance Tuning experts - Volvo specialists - plus General Car Maintenance, Vehicle Repairs and Servicing ). This garage recently dropped a lower mileage engine into my Sti and they have kindly agreed to keep the old engine until all the bits from it are sold (how nice is that). Stuart is the owner and he has agreed to field and technical questions you may have (and how nice is that!). They really are top guys.

can you confirm that there are no problems with the bottom end? how much oil was it using when fitted in your car and why did you change it if it was ok?

Hi Scoobysmiff

I've answered your questions below...

Can you confirm that there are no problems with the bottom end?
No problems that I am aware of. The engine is out of the car and laying on the floor at the garage, so it can be easily inspected (assuming you can easily get to Kent!)

How much oil was it using when fitted in your car?
Not a lot. On all my cars, I always check the dipstick every month (I have a monthly alarm set on my mobile to remind me, how sad is that?) + I keep a small bottle of Shell oil in the boot of the Sti (I can't remember it's full name, but it's the right one for the engine, as I asked my garage which type I should buy). In all the time I've owned the car, and therefore the engine (that's 1999 - today), I have never had to put loads in. Just a drop here and there, with the small bottle lasting for a very long time.

Why did you change it if it was ok?
The engine is OK and has a full service history. However, I recently got my hands on an even more OK engine (one with less than 50K (as opposed to 126K) and for good price to boot). This engine has now been transplanted into my sti, hence the other one lying in the garages workshop. My old engine is a good, looked after engine (I have all the receipt for the car to prove this). But at the end of the day it has done 126K miles (apart from the newer bits fited in 2002), and replacing it for one that has done less than half the milage was a no brainer to me.

Just to let you know, it does look like I have a buyer for this. But I will keep this thread up to date until the sale goes through. ('cos you never know what might happen).

I hope this helps.

Regards, Mark.
