Thumbs up EJ257 Built up Short Engine

I have decide to sell my lightly fettled brand new EJ257 (US spec Sti/MY06 Sti type UK) short engine, built up and fitted with a sump, new oil and water pumps, new Modine oil cooler, a set of ARP studs and a set of metal composite head gaskets (which have been fitted but never run).

When I bought the new short engine I had Autosportif strip it down to hone the bores to 1 thou clearance on the pistons (as standard these seem to come with wildly varying clearances from none whatsoever to 0.5 thou...not enough for me!) to ensure the pistons have room to expand without going oval and causing piston slap as life goes on. They then assembled my complete long engine checking the tolerance of all the components.
If you buy this engine you will get:
  • An EJ257 2.5 litre short engine with bores honed to 1 thou clearance on the pistons with a matched (plasti-gauged to the crank to ensure optimised tolerance) set main and big end bearings - all bearing surfaces were oiled with lube to prevent wear on start up for the first time
  • New RCMS modified oil pump
  • New water pump
  • New modine oil cooler (the std fit water/oil cooler)
  • Modified standard sump (mild modification of baffling to help prevent surge)
  • Oil pickup and windage tray
  • Set of new 11mm ARP head studs complete with nuts and washers
Subaru EJ257 metal composite head gasket (heads torqued down but engine never run)
This engine has done little more than sit in my car for the last 2 years being turned over hand every month or so

The parts alone for this cost in excess of 2300 GBP and then there was the honing and assembly work (which cost around 1k for the long engine)!

Offer me more than 1900 GBP plus delivery (or collection can be arranged) and it's yours!

Does it come with heads as you dont specify whether it does or not?
If so what heads are they please?

No it most certainly does not come with heads! (they're almost more valuable than the short engine!)

A 'Short Engine' means without heads fitted, 'Long Engine' is with heads fitted

so the head gaskets are no good then if heads been torqued down and then removed.

As long as the engine hasn't been ran, or hasn't been ran very long, they should be ok.

Because I want to use my heads on the engine I'm building to replace the 2.5, and believe me I am not selling these heads...unless someone wants to offer me 4.5k GBP for the long engine

Iain, it could be a bare block and crank if you wanted it to be...just a rather expensive bare block and crank

Don't know about used to it yet Tim, pushing 400 now, but having FMIC, large injectors, 20g turbo etc, etc, etc, this has to be the next step, along with gas flowing the heads. Can't believe no-one has ripped your arm off for this.

Oh, and it's STUART

I'm quite surprised that after 470 views no one has even attempted to make me an offer on this lot. I know it's big money, but if you're putting an engine together I'm afraid it does cost!

All I can say is with this lot you really shouldn't need to buy anything else, just swap the parts over from your original engine fit it and run the car in!

Tim W, I do want it and would make you an offer, but I am temporarily (I hope) unemployed at the moment.

Graham, it's not worth reving 2.5's much higher than 7k rpm, but with the heads and cams (ported Sti 4 with WRC98 profile cams) I was going to set a soft limiter from 7250 with the hard stop at around 7500 for road use and then for launching on the strip and hill I was going to move the soft cut to around 7500 and set the hard at 8k

I should add other than a new cambelt you shouldn't need any other new parts to fit this engine to your car, everything else can be scavanged from your existing engine
