Default STI Type R V5, with 2.5l modification Price reduced!!

Now wanting £10,500.....I need to buy a kitchen for my new house, so it has to go!

Model code GC8 in metallic steel grey with Red/black/grey interior

David Hendry Cars imported it from Japan when new (it came to the UK with 126 miles on it). I have the original handbooks in Japanese.

It’s got a few stone chips on the front bumper etc as they all have, otherwise it is in a good condition (no swirl marks). Inside it’s also clean and tidy, and has not been smoked in. There is no known accident history, and nothing at all recorded by HPI – its HPI clear.

Recently it’s had a comprehensive engine overhaul with a 2.5 litre STI engine, with no expense spared, using quality parts from the likes of Roger Clark Motorsport and APS. With the larger engine capacity and low ratio gearing it now absolutely flies, well, the 0-60 was apparently in the low 4 sec to 60 for the standard car before the 2.5 went in, so you can imagine what its like now!

2.5 Modification by RE Motorsport
- Motec M800 OEM ECU Supplied, Fitted and Mapped by Owen Developments
- 2.5 STI Block with STI Internals
- Roger Clark Motorsport RCM Uprated oil pump
- APR 11mm Studs
- Roger Clark Motorsport RCM130 ultralight flywheel
- Roger Clark Motorsport RCM324 Headers with Woof coating
- Roger Clark Motorsport RCM04 Induction kit
- Samco induction silicone hose for above induction kit
- New air intake duct to turbo
- APS 3.5” stainless steel WRX-HOE/R1 Exhaust 995-019-100
- APS WRX High Flow CAT
- Fuelab 51502-1 EFI Regulator
- Sytec (Walbro) 225 fuel pump
- AP Racing organic clutch
- New V5 STI P1 inlet manifold
- Boost Control valve 3 port valve OEM
- Fully balanced STI crank
- ACL race bearings on bottom end and mains
- Fully reconditioned Turbo
- Cometic head gaskets
- Recon-ed and tested injectors
- Mahles forged pistons
- Hyperflow oil catch tank and battery clamp

Modification done only 1500 miles ago.

Standard type R kit
- STi intercooler water spray (auto and manual)
- STi 5 speed close ratio gearbox
- STi short shifter
- STi Driver control centre diff (DCCD)
- STi grey/red suede bucket seats
- Power steering
- Aircon / climate control
- Electric windows
- Electric folding mirrors
- Factory tint on rear screen and quarter windows
- Rear wash/wipe
- Twin airbags (not always present on STI V5s)
- Twin calliper rear brakes

Other Extras
- Braided Brake Hose and ends
- Pagid Blue Brake Pads on front brakes
- Slight tint on driver and passenger windows
- Intercooler protector grill
- Defi Gauges (oil temp and pressure and boost, in pod on dash centre console)
- 17" Rare Rim alloy light weight wheels and Toyo T1-R tyres - these have only done a couple of thousand miles, and they still have loads of tread.
- Thatcham Cat1 alarm
- Tracker
- CD player

Performance
- Power 345 bhp
- Torque 322 lbft
- Car modifications have been designed ready for an uprated turbo and injectors to take it up to 400 bhp

History
- David Hendry Cars imported it from Japan from new
- Was first registered in the UK in January 1999 (on an S plate)
- Service history from David Hendry Cars and recently by independent specialists Scooby Clinic and RE Motorsport
- HPI clear
- 56,000 miles
- Total of 5 registered keepers, the 5th/last being myself. I have owned the car since 11/06/2005 and have run it for about 20k miles.

I will take serious buyers out for a spin as a passenger, but if you’d like to drive it yourself you'll need proof of fully comp insurance.

Was asking £11,995, but now £10,500 (which is a bargain to say I’ve just spent about £15k on the engine build and mods) and I know if you come and see it you will definitely want to buy it, it’s a great looking car. Please PM me if you want any more info, or call after 6pm on 07855 078698 (please leave a message if I can’t take the call).

Cheers
Dave

I will let you know if they go with the car or not when I get it sold. If the new owner does not want them, will let you know.

Cheers

That is a very nice motor with a really good spec . Good luck with the sale mate and dont listen to the same people that seem to post on all the high spec cars with comments about the asking price. That is a real bargain for the spec and condition of the car! I do wish people would think twice about posting if they have nothing constructive to post on for sale threads.

Whilst you're asking a lot of money for the car during the 'credit crunch' these will only increase in value over the next few years, especially good ones like this. So, either hold out for sensible offers or keep it and enjoy. Good luck with a great Type R.

Cheers for the advice. I would like to keep it, hence not trying to sell it for a really low price. It is worth the money, but with the credit problems Im not surprised I still have it.....but Im not complaining!

I have had lots of interest, but mainly from people wanting to p/x a car against it. I really need the cash rather than another car.

Im open to offers on the price, but not very low ones.

I think this one came into the country when mine did as mine is also a jan 99 registration (sva 17th jan 99) and with the exception of the 2.5ltr build and the price (mine was half the price with half the mileage and a 1200 quid plate thrown in!) it is a little over priced, top end of 8-9k, otherwise your hitting spec c territory, and a type r wont compete there

I know where you are coming from with the price, but its still loads cheaper than if you bought a type r without the mods or with lesser quality mods and added the bits later on.

Say you bought one for 6k?, then even ignoring the fact that the engine has been flow matched and balanced, adding just some the top rate parts which are on mine such as the following (guessing the prices at mo as I dont have the paperwork to hand...but they are about this):

Motec £2700
APS Exhaust and sports cat £1000
RCM Ceramic coated headers £800
AP organic clutch and super light weight RCM flywheel £700
2.5 Engine £1700
Total: £6900

It all depends what you want? If you are looking to do something with lesser quality/priced parts or something done with higher value/quality parts.

A bit like going to RCM for an engine rebuild. I would guess they are more expensive than going to your local backstreet garage, but you expect the quality and attention to detail would be better, hence you are prepaered to spend that bit more.....

I could have used cheaper parts on it, but I believe thats false economy...I know other people may disagree with that. When I bought the car it did have mods to it, like the above mentioned parts swaped from standard. But during the 25k miles I have done in it, the cheap stainless steel exhaust got holes it in, the mapping was not very good, etc, etc. So I wanted a good car, so swaped the not so good aftermarket parts which were on it for the best parts I could get. I did not want to keep replacing items so went for quality parts.

Well this one has....
Link ecu with water injection
MD turbo technics turbocharger
HKS cone filter
HKS FMIC
New Headers and up pipe (GT spec)
Full decat system (3 inch)
Uprated clutch (of some unknown type at the moment)
Uprated injectors
17 inch wheels and new Yoko parada 2's
Uprated polly bushes
SPA gauges
Built in lamba and knock links
Built in radar detector (damn handy )

There are probably a few other bits in there also and i didnt add the slightly expensive numberplate that came with the car (5k all in) with 28k on the clock though i have just reverted back to a standard ecu and waiting to have the car mapped for all the bits very shortly
And yes, 5k! (still needs a few little bits doing though)

Tony

PS was yours also SVA'd at a similar time to mine? wondering if this was one of a batch that came into the country in early 99

The car from memory was made in Dec98 and was registered in the UK with about 100 miles on it in Jan 99 by David Hendery Cars, so could well have been a fews cars brought over together. There seem to be very few of the classic cars that have been brought over like mine from new to the UK like this, most cars seem to have been imported after several years of ownership.
