Thumbs up *Rare STi 5 Wagon* - New STi9 Bottom End Rebuild - MAKE US AN OFFER

** Provisionally Sold**

For sale Rare JDM 1999 Subaru Impreza WRX STI version 5 Wagon

Engine rebuild at 66k - JDM STi v9 Bottom End – 301 BHP

Genuine and clean example

This is a Genuine STI and a very clean example that has been meticulously cared for. Engine rebuild at 66k - JDM STI v9 forged Bottom End, plus more.

MY99 on a ‘T’. This has all the history you could hope for. Just look at my posts on Scoobynet or Hampshire Subaru.

Please dont confuse this car with a Lower Spec UK Turbo or Import WRX masquerading as an STI with STI bits bolted on, this is a Genuine Rare STI Model. A model that was not available in the UK and was a Japanese Domestic Market model only.

Vehicle Spec:

JDM 2.0 WRX STI Impreza 5dr Wagon (GF8F5ED)
301.5 BHP (safe and reliable all day long on new forged bottom end)

Owned and meticulously cared for by member of Scoobynet/Hampshire Subaru and 555 Wagon Squadron, *Smiles* on ScoobyNet. Two previous owners SNet members and Hampshire Subaru.

Mileage is 71k Miles. However this also benefits from a £4,000 bottom end rebuild at 66k, using uprated components chosen for reliability – JDM STI 9 nitrided crank/ rods, ACL uprated bearings/shells, Mahle pistons, Excedy Clutch etc.

Service History pre and post Rebuild, with lots of receipts, ££££’s spent. Always Warmed a up and cooled down. Never thrashed from cold. This is a second car and weekend toy, only 4k since April, and most of that was in the first month for running in of new engine.

Just had 7500 mile service, new front disks and pads, new battery, Excedy clutch fitted approx 4k ago.

As mentioned engine has been recently been fully rebuilt and run in after bottom end failing. Work was carried out by Len at Subaru4You in Newbury Berks whose work is notoriously good. Mapping and rolling road by Pat Herborn and Surrey Rolling Road.

The engine has been run in safely and within the limits set by Len at Subaru 4 you. Back for its oil change, check over and remap by Pat and then on Surrey Rolling road, Dyno sheets available and seen in pics. Didnt fancy gunning it from day one and have to pay to have it all done again.

Never tracked or ¼ Strip

No accidents or crash damage repairs recorded HPI Clear & HPI checked/ purchased when I bought the car.

6 Months Tax & will be supplied with 12 Months MOT
Full rebuild spec can hopefully be seen in the photos.

Being the STI Tuned Version of the WRX Wagon, it benefits from coming with all the usual STI Extras as standard.

Uprated engine internals, forged pistons etc.

Larger STI intercooler

STI Seats – So comfy

STI Deep Rear top and bottom spoiler

STI Red Suspension

Uprated brakes/calipers.

Also Air conditioning, Power Steering, ABS, Twin airbags, Genuine Subaru STI Front Mudflaps

Plus being the version 5 STi means the ECU can be mapped using Ecutek software. The ECU is Ecutek Licensed and was mapped by Pat Herborn.

Cat 1 Alarm and Immobiliser.

Engine Rebuild:
JDM STI9 nitrided Crank & Rods
ACL Race Bearings
Mahle PowerPak Pistons
Excedy Clutch
New MAF
All parts replaced as required on re-assembly, flywheel, hoses (replaced by samco set) etc.
Carl Davey inlet manifold & header tank insulator spacers, these really do work well.
Standard injectors,Turbo and intercooler retained.
Ecutek map by Pat Herbon and checked at Surrey Rolling Road.

Standard Engine, no mods apart from uprated internals of build.

Engine ancillaries:
Standard turbo/ injectors
Full Hayward and Scott de-cat system – down pipe, center and back box.
Standard STi backbox and downpipe available.
Ported standard Headers – I believe these to be Harvey Smith origin.
Uprated Walbro fuel pump.
Apexi Induction Kit
OEM Re-circ Dump Valve
Oil vapour catch tank – was fitted by previous owner as a safety device, NOT for track use abuse.

Brakes and Suspension:
STI Red Suspension
Uprated disks and pads all round, fronts replaced approx 500 miles ago at last service.
Braided Hoses
Carbon strut brace

Wheels and Tyres:
Original STI alloys, lots of tread on all tyres.
Set of Rays Engineering 16” wheels and tyres also available to sell seperately or negotiate price to include in sale.

Exterior:
Only additions are OEM STi Mudflaps, Crystal headlights and sides, oem headlight protecors.
ns headlight has bullseye.

Interior:
STI Pedals
STI Mats

Lamco Column mounted Boost Gauge

Condition:
Meticulously looked after by myself. Previous owner is a professional valeter so this standard has been maintained by myself. The car is cleaned every weekend without fail, using top quality products and is in superb condition.
The whole car was gone over by the Dent people at SBO this year, all panels were worked on so is completely dent free now.
Seats are in great condition with non smokers, No saggy supports.

Why are we selling up?
We are staying in the suabru community, and selling this together with our Forester S-Turbo to move up to a STI Forester. This is the only reason we are selling, we will be sad to see it go as it has blistering performance but retains that stealth image, but I have always wanted an STi Forester and we are now in a position to buy one.

The S-Turbo will be advertised shortly, please contact us if you are interestd in the meantime though.

£7250 Offers

Drive away an Iconic Rare Wagon

Also for sale our Foz S-turbo '52 Reg 95k miles 100% standard, even down to the Quenby Subaru tax disc holder, FSH, - £ offers please

Pics could be better, but its been too sunny lately and its just too shiny to get any without reflections.

Quikck Question ...Long Answer

Hi, good to hear from you, it was nice to meet up at NBO, thats a blinding wagon you have also

Yes, the engine power can be a lot more powerful, it has great potential lurking for the new owner it was running 315 even before the bottom end said goodbye.

There was a plan but plans change so never got onto the second phase of the plan.

The plan for 'Project Type-WA' was to get the car back on the road and run-in on a nice safe spec, didnt want uber power and boost on a brand new bottom end, not until it was run in and had a few thousand miles under its belt.

So Pat gave it a nice conservative safe map, no point spanking it at this point.
We put about 3-4k on it and took it to surrey rolling road to check the health and all seemd good so Pat gave it a tweak but still within sensible limits as was still running stock turbo and injectors etc.
So phase 2 was upgrade turbo, an APS TMIC, the APS induction kit (now for sale as unused BTW), bigger injectors etc etc. but have a chnage of plans now as going to plough those funds into an STI Fozzer now instead

The engine rebuild hasnt included any components that are actually set to increase stock power as such, they are only supporting mods to create a safe platform to build on, i.e. it has stock turbo injectors, intercooler. I guess I mean that the crank doesnt add any power, the rods, pistons or bearings dont add BHP in themselves, but they do allow more power to be safely extracted with supporting power mods such as turbo, injectors and a supporting map, they will safely allow the boost to be increased etc.

The power increase from 280 to 300 comes from the exhaust system and a map, a map tweak and increase in boost could eek our even more power but limitations on power will be met by the stock turbo and injectors. But the real power will come with bigger turbo, injectors, uprated IC and supporting map, so 400 is on the cards without thinking about it and with the STI 9 Nitrided crank and rods and mahle pistons you know these will take the boost and the with acl bearings you know the bottom wont be the problem this time round.

So leaving that for someone else to decide on how much power they want to dial in with a map tweak and supporting mods

The Project 'Type WA' Story

Active Duty with the Wagon Squadron

It all goes Pete Tong - M3 gets Decorated with my Bottom-end. AA Taxi for smiles

Getting stripped

The rebuild

Carl Davey bits - Top piece of kit that really works

Dont feed the Monkeys aka Len & Mark - Subaru4you

It Lives

Type-WA gets Badged

THE END

Any other Questions

I didn't cotton on that Len & Mark did the rebuild. I would trust them with my first born. That rebuild will be as tough as old boots without a shadow of a doubt for a potential buyer .
