Talking 1999 (T) STi 5 Type RA V Ltd

1999 (T) STi 5 Type RA V Ltd - 42,600 miles

After a joyful year of ownership it's now time to sell my much loved RA. This car is in superb condition inside and out and has been loved and cared for since the day I've owned. It has been lightly/sensibly modified which are listed below. This car was imported new by Warrenders in 1999 and so has spent all it's life as a UK car.

A little about the STi Type RA

The Type RA (Race Altered) is a light(er) weight and stiffened version of the 4 door Impreza targeted primarily as a base car for Group N rallying. The Type RA shared much of the same running gear as the Type R, this includes the short ratio gear box and a DCCD (Driver Controlled Centre Diff). The DCCD allows the front/rear power bias to be adjusted by the driver, in the fully open setting this will give a 66% power bias to the rear wheels meaning this car drives very much like a rear wheel drive car but with the obvious advantage of a 4 wheel drive.

This car has all the usual STi refinements

8,000 rpm redline
Front/Rear anti rolls bars
Carbon fibre front cross brace
I/C spray
Air Con
Electric Windows
Chrome door sills
Quick Steering Rack
Rev counter in the correct place
plus the (v Ltd) Roof Vent.

Modifications & Extras

The car has been sensibly modified, with the following mods;

ECU Remap by Bob Rawle to run on UK SUL and with increased performance
Walbro fuel pump and FSE adjustable fuel reg
Full decat with a resonated centre section (little silencer)
AST Coil Over suspension - This has 12 point adjustable damping and is fully height adjustable
335mm Godspeed brake conversion with Ferodo DS2500 pads
Braided brake lines
18" Superlegerra alloys with Toyo Proxies. (both of these have covered less than 2000 miles)

SECS 1003 monitor and knock link discretely mounted with the LEDs fixed in the dash.

Stuff

The acceleration of this car from 0-60 is absolutely ferocious as anyone that has been in or owned a Type R or an RA will agree, this is mainly attributed to the light weight, short gearing and high red line. This is a great upgrade from a UK Turbo or a WRX where you will find a huge performance difference.

The braking is unbelievable, marred only by the lack of ABS.

Price - £12,500

Pics are in the post above

I'm on the Isle of Wight, but if you (or anyone else) want to see the car there are foot passenger ferries from Portsmouth and Southampton (they take 20 minutes and 25 minutes respectively) and I can meet you this end at the ferry terminal.

If you click on User CP at the top, then Edit Options, under "Thread Display Options" there is a tick box that says "Show Images" you should find that this is currently unticked.

You could also try logging out.

That said, I've just tried that myself and although the images disappeared they were replaced by hyperlinks - So I'm guessing you cant see these either

Thanks zhastaph my firewall was blocking the pics, strange because I can usually see pictures that are posted. Nice car by the way.

I think they save the weight then put it back on again but adding that lot

Seriously though, I stuck it on a weigh bridge sometime back (as you do) and she weighed in at 1280kg, no driver, half a tank of fuel and the spare wheel.

They are rumoured to use thinner body panels (they certainly sound it compared to my uk scoob), thinner glass , no abs and less sound deadening.

Since then she's had a new set of wheels with a whopping 20kg saving and the AST suspension that I estimate to be good for another 10kg saving.

Have you had it on rolling road? What did Bob estimate the power output to be?
Would you be interested in a PX.

Sadly I haven't, I never asked Bob for an estimate, but I'd personally estimate it to be in the 300-320 bhp region.

As far as concerns part ex, she's already been replaced I'm afraid

1280kg is very good, with 320+ BHP will be rapid. c'ant believe you weighed your car!
I would'nt make such a big deal about the lack of ABS. I had a 4 Type R with no ABS and it never caused any problems. Probably the most exciting car I've ever owned,so much so I'm sort about thinking of buying another!
Good luck with the sale.

Question

Nice looking car zhastaph! I'm looking for one of these but just trying to raise the funds, so may be back in contact.

I thought the V-Limited's had ABS ??

Cheers,
CHRIS.

Nah, neither the Type R nor the RA had ABS, something to do with not being compatible with the adjustable centre diff I believe.

In some respects it's a good thing, my old UK Turbo had ABS and partly due to this the brakes were really naff, but there are times like panic braking in the wet that it would be nice if it were there .....

He ony weighed his car to prove it was lighter than my UK Scoob... It was - by all of 10 kgs. (This was before the new wheels and suspension, so should be more now.)

Seriously, this is a very nice car, and you'd go a long way to find one better and more pampered.

Nice car, nothing like the sound of them when they're screaming, but the Scoob's already been replaced with my new toy.

Thanx for the kind words Dave

Vey nice, rare scoob too.

Note the roof vent and no elec ariel (more weight saving) but has bonus of elec windows which the standard RA didn't have....
