Mods, please could you leave here for some local coverage. Posted in For Sale also. Thanks
Apologies in advance for the long post but I feel a bit of history is necessary
1999 DBM 4 dr Turbo 2000 AWD
100,500 miles
FSSH (CVC Cardiff, then AF Nobles, Penicuik)
8 months MOT
2 months tax
Factory fitted sunroof (very rare)
6 CD Multichanger, Pioneer stereo
2 Owners from new - registered 01/9/99 (me from 64,500 miles)
£8,000 no offers
Interior is as new
please note: Knocklink, Boost Gauge, AFR meter, PIAA driving lamps & MY00 alloys have been added since these photos
Doesn’t show the car very well… but nice photo anyway
Now before anyone goes off on the usual
I'd like to make a few things clear about the pricing of the car, so please read on if you are interested, otherwise please ignore.
The car was previously owned by a sales manager who was based in Wales and did the entire 64,500 miles to and from the Scot Eq head office in Edinburgh (hence mostly motorway miles)
Brief history:
At around 75,000 miles 3rd gear went pop and the teeth found their way everywhere so, rather than an expensive (and not always 100% perfect) gearbox rebuild, Nobles (local Subaru dealer) sourced and fitted a 2001 gearbox with only 14k on it with a 2 year dealers guarantee.
Clutch was changed at the same time to save labour charge later on.
At 86,000 miles the engine suffered a fatal piston failure due to a combination of (failing MAF or shorting HT lead....) again rather than a costly and not perfect rebuild I chose to fit a brand new short block supplied by Subaru UK and fitted by AF Nobles. 2 year dealer guarantee. The MAF was changed at this time and the new engine was run in under 3k revs for the first 1,000 miles where I then had the oil changed and then built the revs up slowly until 3k covered on the new block.
90k service was also carried out at the above time, to save belt labour charge, along with new discs fitted all round. Total cost £3,456.75
Following the above catastrophe I took the car to AWD in Perth and asked Grant to fit an A Pillar boost gauge, AFR meter and Knocklink as in all honesty I was terrified that this would happen again I also asked AWD to ensure that the car was fuelling correctly and AWD assured me that all was ok.
The car has been slightly modded but nothing too extravagant or reliability compromising. AWD put a Dawes valve on briefly but I removed it after about a week when the knocklink showed a bit too much activity and my bank balance was too scared to repeat the above
Fully colour coded
Magnex twin downpipe
Swana BackBox - 3.5'(lovely burble but not too loud) Centre section is still in place and passed MOT in Aug with no hassle.
Green Cotton Air Filter
Knocklink
AFR meter
Boost Gauge
PIAA Driving Lamps
Clear side and front repeaters
Bumpsteer Mod and allignment (done by Falkland)
New prodrive springs and shocks at front (replacement upgrade due to wear)
MY00 Alloys fitted earlier this year (good Toyo Proxes all round)
New starter motor last month
Although driven quickly the car has never been tracked and I have always warmed and cooled the car down properly and since I owned the car it has never been run on anything other than Optimax & ESSO SUL.
The paint work has a few minor door parking dings but I have religously polished the car with Autoglym polish and sealer once a month so it still looks 100%
The point to note about the sale of this car is that the main bits of it have done between 15 and 20k miles so for 8k you are effectively getting a new classic with the big bits still under guarantee.
It's me that's spent all the money so you don't have to
Will p/ex for something cheaper and a bit more.... marriage friendly

ooooh that's a bit steep for such a high mileage

Simon has been unlucky with the things that has happened to his car and has probably spent more on it in the time he's had it than most owners do in a lifetime - he's a lot more of a 'just get it as new no matter the cost' guy than I am!! I've seen the big bills with my own eyes
However, despite the fact that its in direct competition with my car which is for sale at a similar price I have to be honest and say that si's drives that little bit, 'newer' This is largely down to the nearly new box, clutch and engine which all run super-sweet. The mods are also very nice and the car pulls very well. A good buy and I'll assist in keeping the ad at the top

Can you drop me some photos to mike.robbie (at) btopenworld.com
Is a 1999 Golf GTI 1.8T (APR chip) more marriage friendly? All depending on getting a job in Jan/Feb and some other stuff so don't get your hopes up

Can't believe you put a picture up with your house in the background! Now they will know you don't need the money and will knock you down
Did I not mention that the East Wing needs roof repairs and the damned servants seem to think they need a rise to look after a pending wife
Someone buy this car or this sort of inane waffle will continue

Try a different approach: For sale, MY99 scooby, total shed, been 1/4 miled every sunday I've had the chance and every track day. Was rolled and rebuilt. Engine and gearbox let go due to brutal mistreatment. Was stolen and recoved and used as a getaway from a bank robbery, police commented how difficult it was to catch during the 100 mile flat out chase. Never washed, what is poilsh? Always thrashed from cold and no service history. Offers around £10k
