As mentioned by Banny - you can see additional bore supports on this Picture which i quickly marked to clarify.
The open blocks do not have these therefore are prone to bore movement under higher boost.

And a Free Bump for Daz

Is yours a 2.5 and does it look like this?

Mine is a closed deck 2.5 but it started life as a 2.0L it cost me £1200 to get it bored, sleeved, and honed.
Subaru have never produced a closed deck 2.5

if its from the states it's probably had a plate welded into the top that's all. Not a true closed deck block.
It will still have the same stock liners which have been prone to split @ over 500bhp on the standard EJ257 block
Look at the block in my pic you can see the top hat liners quite clearly. if you can't see the liners clearly then its a standard block with just a plate welded in the top. Becareful how you describe it

Have a good look fella, i noticed your breaking thread refers to your engine as a EJ257.
This can be determined from the engine plate situated under the alternator area. Is it a Ej20 or a EJ25?
And as Daz says if it is plated it is not a proper CDB.

Ej257 - This is the semi-closed (as in the marked drawing above)
Ej255 - is the WRX open deck which has no upper bore liner supports.
Might be worth mentioning in your breaking thread that it;s plated, or take some pics and put them up on a diff thread for comments.
Unless you have a short motor which was only manufactured in very very limited numbers as in 5 to 10. Which i very much doubt.
