Pic attached is a direct comparison between a plated front diff and an open front diff (the plated one is on the right
)

It is like this:

Hand stamped on the housing is C3 D5
Casting # is 528, stamped 22.
i can only open the first 3 pics, but the No's are the same! (C3 D5) and it sure looks the same to me.
Do you know anymore?
I think it is a Kazz diff. The bearings are Japanese.

It came with my 1995 WRX RA in an STI R160 plated diff box. I always assumed that this was the origional one and the sti one was in the car. Never had any luck on here getting it identified.
A guy at work that thinks he knows diffs said it was viscous.
When I got my STI3 this year I got another one the same in a Cusco 1 way LSD box! This car definatly has a plated diff in it.
Surely if mine and yours were standard units someone would know!

Real mystery!
I think the V3 Sti came with a visc rear as stock, and the Sti RA was plated so presumably the 'better' diff?
Would you agree?

They look different to me.
Chatting to several today at the hillclimb, it would seem a plated front to be too sever.
Still think the Sti v3 has a visc rear diff.
