I am seriously thinking about the Ecutek 1 remap for my MY00 wagon .. :)

Has anyone had one fitted in Scotland if so could maybe answer me a few questions. From reading this BBS I see John 'Ecutek' Banks is not far away from me .. excellent :D

I have read the Ecutek website.

Can you quantify the gains you made by getting the Tek1? Think of it like this, if someone installed the Tek1 in your car without you noticing, would you on driving the car think 'hmmm, what's going on here with a big smile :D :D :D'?

I am not after serious power gains (as in 250-260 BHP) at the top end but would like a bit more BHP/Torque lower down.

Also I have a Scoobysport backbox but still think that my car could do with being a bit more free revving between 5500 to red-line.

Does this sound like the Ecutek 1 to you ? .. or does the Tek1 remap just smooth out things rather than add more torque/bhp?

My car peaks at 13 psi, holding 11 ish in 'attack' mode. Does the Tek1 remap increase boost or just redistribute it?

If you're reading this John ..
How long does it take to fit? Do I need to bring my car to you or could this be done say at lunchtime in the work car park? (South Queensferry).

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance for any help.
Doofus.

Hi Doofus,

From what I've read - the Tek1 is well worth it.

I don't have one, as I already run a MY99 with the 801 cpu - however when John went out in my unmodified car he said it felt a lot more lively than his did unmodified when he was running the 802 cpu.

So basically, as has been posted before, that most MY00's aren't as quick/flexible MY99's (802 Vs 801 ECU).

I have not been in many Scoobs apart from my own and although I experience some surging when the engine is cold I wouldn't say that I suffer from the hesitation that many MY00 seem to suffer from (mind you saying that I have nothing to compare it against  )

I know driveability etc is more important and I'm not that interested in putting my car on rolling road but I'd like to think that the Tek1 remap will give me a bit more torque/more flexibility @3K or at least free up the engine above 5.5K.

If the Tek1 remap only smooths out acceleration and sorts out fluctuating boost/acceleration I may be better to hang fire until I can afford the Tek2 i.e. if MY00 802+Tek1 = MY99 801

I don't think my MY00 suffers as badly as some seem to.

Thanks for your help,
Doofus.

I think the gains are more than just ironing out the hesitation issues, etc but John would be a better person to get the low down from than me :)

The Tek2 sounds excellent though.

Thanks Richard .. I hope JOhn can give me a bit more info.

John .. can you maybe e-mail me or put the details here, basically I want to know what the Tek1 will do for me ... :)

Thanks,
Doofus.

Hi Doofus,

The Tek1 is basically a MY99 ECU which runs slightly less fuel and more ignition advance, along with more boost on part throttle. The Tek1 is also ever so slightly leaner still (but still very safely rich) and runs slightly more boost. See the Ecutek site for some dyno comparisons.

Please note the scaling on this graph but the torque curve in particular is a lot fatter :)

I am in Dunfermline, so best done in an evening or weekend at my place as I have all the facilities here I need. I happen to be available tonight ;)

I only offer the equivalent to a Tek3 which is a full custom map to your requirements and takes two to three hours. I charge £500 for this (no VAT) - this is the same price as a mail order Tek2 and an introductory price for me. This will result in very substantial but safe improvements in performance - with decat you should be 255-265 BHP on the most conservative rolling roads, and around 270-280 on the higher reading ones, but every car is different, and the temperature on the day and the setup of the rollers can make a difference.

However, if you don't want a Tek3 I do have 2 MY99 AE801 ECUs which if you are quick - ie tell me tonight if you can (they are in a queue to get reprogrammed when I can as I was not planning to sell them) I could exchange for your MY00 ECU for £75 - takes 10 minutes to do. This would give you almost the gain of a Tek1. Because of my overheads I am not able to offer the Tek1 at a sensible price, hence I don't offer it at all. If you want whilst you are here I can also let you have a sample drive with a Tek2 with no obligation if you dare try it - because if you do you will want one!

Give me a call 01383 735705 if you want - I am in now.

Provisionally held until noon Wed for:

1. Doofus

2. Jon Wallis

Please let me know guys by email.

For Doofus I can fit locally. For Jon if you want me to send you this and then you send yours by return that is OK so you are not left without an ECU, but I need an ECU back very quickly.
