The tower block was known as the "Rocket", was in Dunston, but, it's been knocked down now. Same bloke that designed it, did the "Get Carter" multi story car park in Gateshead, which has also been knocked down.

I'm not being defensive in the slightest despite what you believe. ;)
I've read what you've posted and just posted on that, you mentioned Welsh accent and did not state which Welsh accent or area you were specifically referring to. So from this I deduced that you were referring to Wales as a whole, it would be like me stating that all English people speak like they are from Essex. |

Born and raised in Nottingham, mi duck, but no-one thinks I'm from (t)here. Possibly due to all the time living abroad, where I was surrounded by Scousers, Brummies, Geordies, Dutch and Spanish-speakers. Plus I've never said "mi duck" in my hole life. Personally, I any accent north of NG5 grates on me.

Surely no one takes the welsh accent seriously,
And when I hear the scousers accent my first thought is "have I locked my car" Geordies, OK (in a call centre) but would not want my daughter marrying one |

I live in the NG15 postcode. Have to agree with you completely. The Mongsfield/Skegby/Sutton/Kirkby/Huthwaite accents are plain shocking........
My accent is a fair bit posher now I'm rural :D Yewth. |
My Welsh mate mike used to have a party piece. He would sing 'Born to be Wild'
in a broad Welsh accent. One of the funniest things I ever heard. Wish I had it recorded as it would have been an instant internet hit.:lol1: |
Yewth...LOL, I spent two years at college in south Nottingham, one of my best mates was Mansfield-born, and we all picked that one up.
Not sure which sets my teeth on edge more, the southerners who say stuff like, "Stew new new Geoff!" when they mean "Still nil-nil", or the ones who insist that almost every "a" must be drawled, so we get "marst, farst, larst, parth, barth...but maths, NOT marths" They make it up as they go on. Now then, give me a Doncaster accent any day: "Astle clowtthi ifthidunt giower" "Azigeniter?" "Ooworriwi? Worriwiissen?" "Corforus arpastate intmornin". |
