280bhp P1 ecu on my uk2000 what will happen?

my mate has his old P1 ecu which he says I can have, he recons it will pug straight in and run fine with the mods I have and should give me some good gains!? is this correct? ive read a few threads some say yes some say no?

chrispy200+ 04 October 2013 11:09 PM

I'd say don't do it, what turbo etc do you have and mods?

jimbobs 04 October 2013 11:12 PM

just standard TD04, 3" bellmouth decat with 3" straight through, pipercross induction, n a sti tmic with uprated y pipe!

PADDYHOEY 04 October 2013 11:13 PM

You'd need the key from the p1. As the keys are chip keys !

chrispy200+ 04 October 2013 11:14 PM

Sure the p1 has a vf28 like the type r, I personally wouldn't bother, you'd be better of getting yours mapped, much safer

what you mean mate? check what out were?

bradm27scooby 04 October 2013 11:39 PM

In for sale section I'm breaking a wagon with loads of mods the mines ecu I have might suit you better , u will need 440's td05 full decat and air filter and it will raise ur boost and will give u around 300bhp

mnem1c 04 October 2013 11:43 PM

Even tho the P1 is classed as a UK car, Prodrive did not map or change the ecu for the uk. The P1 ecu is a standard JDM v5 sti ecu.

I'll place a bet with you that if you plug this ecu in, your car will go bang!

How will this be better, your trying to sell him a jap ecu, with an aggressive jap map. :cuckoo:

bradm27scooby 04 October 2013 11:49 PM

It's on a uk car with these mods to match it and it's running spot on mate has been for ages, so i was saying this would be better with these mods than just putting an ecu straight onto a standard car

Are you sure its a UK car, have never seen Mines on uk ecu's. Mines are a Jap tuning company and map their ecu's to run on 100ron+

CREWJ 05 October 2013 08:27 AM

You will probably end up with less power as the map was designed for a different engine.

Jolly Green Monster 05 October 2013 08:45 AM

There is no ecu immobiliser on 99/00 classics but you will need to alter three pins at the ecu for it to start.

The map it totally wrong and you will blow the engine up and gain nothing powerwise in the process.

scoobyboy1 05 October 2013 09:03 AM

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If this guy says it wont work and will blow your engine up, I would value his opinion over anyone else's on here when it comes to ecu's!!:thumb:

Just get your ecu mapped, will cost you around £500 and mapped to your car, and tell your mate you will have his P1 ecu and then stick it on e-bay and get some money for it!!!:D

What's the code on front of p1 edu, just I was told when I bought my car the ad said "p1ecu fitted" I've checked and being a ppp car it has the correct sp sti ecu , my 1999 uk2000

Gear Head 05 October 2013 09:47 AM

What would you hope to gain by swapping this ecu? If its a blown engine......go for it!

In all seriousness, think about it. It is mapped for a different engine and turbo combo. What do you think will happen?

obviously was hoping more power lol, but im new to all this hence the reason I asked on here before plugging it in! ive read loads of posts were people have said, prodrive ecu fitted! n they have si ular mods to me!, !

jimbobs 05 October 2013 10:02 AM

:wall:cheers guys im listening, I wownt fit it , bit gutted tbh as I haven't got a spare £500 at the mo! I will have to wait for after crimbo and get mine mapped!

Worth the wait. JGM is correct, (he usually is), and the cost of a blown engine is FAR FAR more than £500, so rest secure that your engine will be OK.

If you have the spare £500, get a proper remap. :thumb:

what do you mean a proper re map? as appose to what mate?

Aaron1978 05 October 2013 05:24 PM

With the mods you listed in post #3, has it already been remapped?

Hol 06 October 2013 01:15 PM

A mapper once told me that the P1 map is a STI map with better knock sensitivity to cope with the low Ron fuel over here. A quick fix for Subaru.

As a result, he always started with a baseline P1 map when he remapped STI 5 & 6's.

What the OP's mate really wants to find is an ECU from a 99/00 Uk PPP car, as with just an STI equivalent exhaust, and intercooler piping they made 250ibs of torque. Almost the same as a P1.

Rare to find for sale, but probably in loads of breakers. Pink label and says STI on it.

Jolly Green Monster 06 October 2013 02:39 PM

P1 and sti map identical. The only mod to the p1 ecu related was a speed delimiter wired into the harness.
P1 was never safe for uk fuel hence so many blew up.
