I agree but would also be at least triple the price!!!!

Can get hold of a 20g for a good price!!

Tidgy 04 October 2013 01:25 PM

hahaha, yeah, i wouldn't worry about the lag you get from the 20 ;)

chet123 04 October 2013 01:35 PM

im sure someone will be on here to comment on their own experience but i'm led to believe a 20g would be laggy on a 2. ltr, most who go for a 20G tend to fit a FMIC with it which i've just seen you are doing.
i think you'll have an excellent gain with what you've got planned.
Each to there own. I went from a vf35 to an 18g couple of weeks ago on my 04 blob sti, keeping TMIC, panel filter, 2.5" turbo cat back, 550, walbro and map.

What power did that make?

yeah was after a 18g but they never seem to come up for sale!! what power did u make with 18g?

Turbotits 04 October 2013 01:46 PM

I also went from a vf35 to 18g. very little difference in lag and spool up. The 18g is far better top end. Mine makes 375 on v power and 401bhp with methonal.

More importantly the torque hangs on neary all the way across the rev range

chet123 04 October 2013 01:50 PM

couldnt tell you which is a shame because i'd like know, map was done on rolling road but i plan to find out.

My moto is to max/utilise the standard components which are all capable of producing good results without changing upto 380-400. My only other next change to keep it a good daily fast road car would be a FMIC if I choose too.

I chose the billet 18g over the 20g due to being a smaller turbo with slightly better spool over the 20g. However i couldve easily have gone 20g but wasnt planning on a FMIC just yet

Exactly what he said. however the vf35 gave a whack in the back when the turbo was on song whereas the 18g has smoother power delivery and top end is really good

I'm looking at 18g and FMIC I think on my 05.

Really tempted by the SC38/42 offerings, but it's a lot of wonga so needs some thought first.

jayallen 04 October 2013 02:27 PM

I went from VF35 to 20g, would never of gone back....

MattyB1983 04 October 2013 03:00 PM

Vf28 to a AF20G here on my old classic. Power went from 340 to 380, I also added gt spec headers and up pipe at the same time so spool was very similar. Made a bar of boost well before 3 grand and pulled harder for longer.
I then added meth which upped the power slightly and increased the torque dramatically which gave me alot more low down grunt.

Turbo lag is only an issue if you're in the wrong gear, keep the revs up when pushing on and you're all good.

On an 18g i would personaly stick with an sti top mount unless your doing laps and laps of track work.

Fonzey 04 October 2013 03:51 PM

Track is only time the car gets driven particularly hard, so the FMIC would be a "safety" addition rather than a performance one.

Fair play

MattyB1983 04 October 2013 04:32 PM

I'd always suggest going front mount.

Do the sc42's spool up quicker than a 20g?

Not sure but a pal has an sc36 fitted and that doesn't make a bar of boost until 4K.

just me 04 October 2013 04:46 PM

I didnt think it was as late as that, so a 42 being bigger would spool up even later, forged 2.1 and mdx321t seem to be the only way foward.

Wow thats late.

Fonzey 04 October 2013 05:17 PM

Surely that's supposed to be SC46 rather than 36? I'd expect the 36 to be up to pressure before the engine is switched on :D

Nope, 36 with a japspeed front mount.

Fonzey 04 October 2013 05:31 PM

Something sounds wrong there then!

Exactly what I said but apparently not

Tidgy 04 October 2013 06:03 PM

def sounds like summit wrong, my sc46 outspools it, although its on a 2.5 and it outspools my old 2.0 vf34 classic hahaha

sorry to hijack the thread, but does anybody know where to get a correct banjo bolt for 20g ? and a braided oil line that would fit blob STI ?

jimbo14prodrive 06 October 2013 07:50 PM

wouldnt worry bout a 20g, ive had an sc46 om my 2.0l 05 sti for 3 years now at 440bhp and it makes 1.55bar boost at 3800rpm, spools quicker than my vf35 did.
