What do you guys think of this?

I'm wanting to rebuild my TD04 over the winter due to a fair bit of shaft play. What about this??

Turbo rebuild is real easy if you use a turbo cartrage. I'm not sure that kit includes all the bits to rebuild it. Its only one turbine ect

have you though about getting a hybrid cartridge..

*matthewturb2000* 08 September 2013 06:04 PM

:brickwall:brickwall:brickwall obviously you have looked at the link after posting lol

piehole1983 08 September 2013 06:12 PM

Didn't see any hybrid cartridges for sale on there.

Surely everything is included to do the job???

Matthew, did you fit the TD06 yet?

*matthewturb2000* 08 September 2013 06:17 PM

nope im not going to now its too big 400bhp, i only want 340 max, going to try and find a hybrid td04 or a td05 18g, that kit if it is all that needed would make your td04 a hybrid, it think as is the td04 is 16t that kit makes it to 19 i think i may be wrong ...

piehole1983 08 September 2013 06:21 PM

All our standard TD04s are 13T, this kit makes it 19T. They have a complete TD04 19T hybrid for sale for £400. This kit strapped on to our own turbos would save a fortune and would effectively be "new" turbos!

*matthewturb2000* 08 September 2013 07:19 PM

yea thats rite ,13t ,i think i saw td04 hybrid on af website alot more than 400 lol im not im a major rush to stick any turbo on im doin my reasherch first

piehole1983 08 September 2013 07:23 PM

I'm the same, just throwing a few ideas around really. My turbo is working fine and I'm sure it will continue to do so! Nobody seems to comment much about Kinugawa so I guess the only thing to do is buy the stuff!

*matthewturb2000* 08 September 2013 07:26 PM

i read goods things from a evo forum about kinugawa, reason for lookin was going to get a evo 4 but the insurance was over double so went for the scoob , cant say that i regret it lol, what is your car cant remember ,mines a 1999 uk 2000ppp

piehole1983 08 September 2013 07:30 PM

Ahhhh lol! Mines a 97 Turbo 2000 with a few mods. Running about 260bhp at the moment. It had been running just under 300bhp according to some history I got with it. The bottom end went and my mate bought it. He had it rebuilt (new crank, rods etc) and then it sat for almost 2 years unused! Only had it since June.

You can pick another tdo4 for £50+ these days, I personally wouldn't bother rebuilding unless you want the experiance. I can't comment on this kit but I have had mates use Chinese kits as they seemed cheap and they failed within a few hundred miles. Could have been the kit or how they was put together.

We rebuilt my mates TDI turbo at about 90k. The vanes where dented all over on both sides. No way was that thing balanced. The whole unit span a lot freerer aswell. Net result. More boost

If you are going to remap it anyway pick up a cheap td05-16g, I once bought a fully working one for £50 and made over 330bhp on pump fuel.
