gc8 wrx 94 z4 ecu with esl daughterboard modded any info appreciated

Hi all I have a gc8 94 standard ecu recently purchased a bargain priced z4 ecu with daughterboard fitted I am told it has 2 sets of chips that can be plugged into the board can both these chips be set in different modes ie 1 for town driving and 1 set for track driving i have a few normal mods de cat full stainless td05 turbo fmic air filter 255 pump swirl box removed does anybody have experience with these ecu's and what is your thoughts of my choice 1st subaru build so would appreciate opinions also what is the average cost of a remap if any one has any info would be much appreciated thanks :notworthy

If you are plugging in chips and it is an ESL board it will be a v1.0 and therefore unmappable.

Chris33 02 September 2013 11:31 AM

Hum how would the 2nd set of chips be tuned to 320bhp that is what was told mapped to run yellow injectors and a few othe mods was told 1st set are mapped to 280bhp thanks though

Chris33 02 September 2013 11:19 PM

Hi andy thanks for the reply just wondering now I have the ecu ready to fit how will I know it's safe to boost do they have a set map or will it already be tuned to my car or do I need to get new improved chips if its not mappable.

my94wrx 02 September 2013 11:42 PM

the best thing to do is put up a picture of the inside of the ecu with the chips, there may be some markings on them to help identify them.

Chris33 04 September 2013 12:11 AM

hi guys here is a couple pics of my ecu not sure if youu will be able to read the codes on the chips so i hope the pics are ok i noticed on the circuit board there is a fuse thats been cut on the left side i assume thats meant to be like that.$(KGrHqFHJBUFH)yc9zVwBSB6)7Sp)!~~60_12[1]

you need to use photobucket to upload pictures.

If it says v1.0 on the silkscreen it is unmappable. The new v2.0 mappable board with twin maps and mafless etc is 295GBP+VAT.

Chris33 04 September 2013 08:34 PM

Yes mate it says v1.0 on it so its not mappable how will I know that it's running true for my car and the spare set of chips how will I know if they are any good for my car I was on the understanding that that they are plug and play but I don't want to risk my engine any help would be great cheers. Only purchased this ecu as was told running the standard ecu with my mods would be dangerous not looking for anything crazy at the min just want to be able to bury the throttle without blowing it up thought and options would be great mate cheers

a standard z4 ecu with your mods will be fine. the esl you have may have been mapped aggressively for a car with stronger mods than yours e.g bigger injectors, IMO running the esl is abigger risk than the standard ecu due to the fact the chip are bound to run more boost and more aggressive timing/fueling. you need to find out what they were mapped for.

Chris33 05 September 2013 09:05 AM

Hi de that's what I thought so how do I get these mapped to suit my car and mods the chap I bought them off said the Chips in it are 280 bhp 1.1boost my car has all supporting mods easily capable of that but will it run fuel and are correctly as I have domicile where he said his had tmic thanks for reply

dj219957 05 September 2013 07:23 PM

you cant live map them. you need to find a mapper with the right gear to write a more generic map to them so you at least know whats on them.

Andy Stevens 05 September 2013 09:55 PM

You can't get it mapped. If you run it check fuelling and det with a wideband and knock sensing equipment. The ESL v1.0 ran more boost, targetted an 11:1 AFR and ran less timing than a Z4.

Chris33 05 September 2013 10:24 PM

Hi andy thanks for your reply I have a local tuner will he be able to do this do you do easlvchip maps I have looked at some of your threads and you obviously know your stuff what should I do to get this thing in and running safe I don't want mega power but want to get the performance I should be getting with my mods cheers fellas

Andy Stevens 06 September 2013 01:34 PM

I own half of ESL but we don't map end user cars directly. Our live mappable ECU is 295+VAT and gives you twin maps, mafless, diagnostics, knock control, etc etc. Any of the recognised tuners on here can map it for you or you can self map.

Chris33 07 September 2013 09:37 AM

Self map how do I do that I have just bought this ecu you so wanna stick with this one for a min cheers any would like to know how to do myself cheers

Andy Stevens 07 September 2013 01:27 PM

I think I've said it a few times now lol, the one you have is unmappable, you can't change the parameters in it.

Self map means you can map it yourself. (The v2.0 board, not the v1.0 board.)

Ok andy thanks so do you sell the v1 esl board chips with a specific map to suit my car if not can it be done that way or who do

MattyB1983 08 September 2013 07:39 PM

Use your standard ecu and have a new esl board fitted. This can then be mapped to suit your car and you can reap all the benefits that the new software offers.

No, we created the live mappable board to do what you are asking. The v1.0 is just an EPROM emulator, like a MINES ECU or similar. It was designed for a standard car. I haven't seen one for 6 years.

Matts advice is correct.

Cheers

Andy
