camblet change, oil pump to???
Im going to be booking in the old wrx for cambelt this coming month, question is, Should i be thinking of changing the oil pump with stock or rcm version and water pump?

My P1 had a shell go, another engine being fitted next week, obviously needed to make sure cambelt replaced. For my own piece of mind I am fitting full cambelt kit, water pump and uprated oil pump.
I only had the car on the road for 6 weeks before engine problem so could do without added expense, but there is no way I want to have another engine go on me so found the extra money for the oil pump upgrade and water pump. |
It would be prudent to remove the old oil pump and check the backing plate screws as they do come loose resulting in reduced oil pressure.
And seeing as it off to check the screws, you might as well replace it if the budget allows. Mick |
Think it only cost me £15 more labour when I had my oil pump changed when I had my cambelt done previously.

bearing in mind the chances of the oil pump failing are slim to none (apart from the odd loose screw issue) then neither it nor the water pump are a requirement in our experience.........
the oil pumps usually fail due to collateral damage from the failed bearings/debris rather than a primary cause |
