Wheels just under 1mm from caliper

Hi all,

I have just test fit some Team Dynamics wheels, and they are just under 1mm from the caliper :freak3:.

Would I get away with this for one weekend fun, or would you suggest I put my 3mm spacers on just for this set of wheels?

My Worx wheels are around 4mm clearance therefore are fine, the Dynamics are just a spare set, so I dont want to go with spacers if I can help it as I would then be concerned about the stud length.

I would try some 1 or 1.5 spacers If I coudl get some in time, but Ive looked everywhere to no avail :(

Rob

ps, Im not a fan of spacers, but needs must :thumb:

Ive decided I am going to make some 1.5mm spacers from sheet Steel :D

Thoughts?

My speedlines are a sheet of a4 paper thick away from my 4 pots, 4 yrs on the car, no issues yet LOL

If you have an air gap then you have a gap rob,the distance can't change once the wheel is torqued up.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was only concerned for debris getting caught up between the wheels and calliper, and the possibility of an element of flex somewhere?

I would use a 3mm just for piece of mind.
Had the same issue on the Rotas, originally had 3mm spacers, still look too close for comfort, so changed them for 5mm.
True they can't move once torqued up, its just the what if scenario.

Did yours actually touch at all, or any burs in the calliper where debris got stuck?

I wouldn't try this unless you're sure you can get them balanced:wonder:

I've access to the right gear ;)

If the wheel will freely rotate then they are fine

I ran big brakes on my old puma and there was fook all clearance, done 7 sessions of combe and had them on the car over a year with no issues

Rob Day 22 July 2013 09:14 PM

Well it's a done deal then, no spacers and deck all gap lol.

Thanks everyone

The only way the wheel will move bud, is if you clout it on somthing rather hard lol

They would do without spacers. A 3mm only just cleared the caliper, wasn't overly keen with what looked like a 1mm gap between the caliper and wheel, so got some 5mm spacers.

Bear in mind mine were Rotas trying to clear Brembo's, a very common issue that requires spacers.

Godspeed brakes just clear the 17" bug wheels by a fraction.........plenty of people have used them no problem and even tracked them :)

Cheers Shaun ;)

I'm not a fan of spacers (even hub centric). Get the right wheels if your offset is wrong. Spacers are compromised engineering solution.

never touched yet

I busted a 17" wrx wheel on track when some debris got caught between the spoke and my k sport caliper. There's only a little bit of clearance, and I think the caliper / wheel acted as a shear for whatever I drove over.

More clearance would probably have prevented this, but this is the only issue I've had in four years with this combo.

Bust a spoke and gouged the calliper.

Like others on here I ran a Rizzla thick gap between my Porsche calipers and alloys on the VR6 for 4+ years both dragging and tracking the car and didn't get any issues whatsoever. There was also no sign on the calipers of anything ever getting in between the wheel and caliper.
