Miles for Tank

Morning All,

First post here so hey ;-)

Im looking to buy an 03/04 impreza wrx or sti (still to be decided).

Im trying to get a general feel for how much miles you guys are getting per tank. Ive seen alot of MPG figures but just wanted a feel for the range that can be achieved on these cars.

Thanks
Ewan

I've got a 2001 wrx and it constantly does 300 miles per tank. And I'm sure it costs around £70 to fill up.

blackvenom 26 June 2013 09:11 AM

I have a UK classic turbo. I can get 30mpg if I drive it sensible. I never put a whole tank in but I can get 200+miles for £40. If you have a heavy foot then your looking at 20-25mpg. If you thinking about fuel now then a scooby isn't for you! Sti is a better car for the money. Running costs are slightly higher

ewan2k_uk 26 June 2013 09:21 AM

Im not worried about the fuel costs at all, ive just sold my E46 M3 as it wasnt much good having a 3 door (got a 2 year old son).

Probably leaning towards an STI but just want to get a general feel for the range on them and the WRX as well.

300 miles is quite good actually for the WRX, my missus have a vauxhall meriva 1.6 petrol that only gets 330 miles to a tank (£60 to fill up) :lol1:

stealthbomber 26 June 2013 09:32 AM

Driven fairly normally my wrx will do around 300 miles to a tank, 330 on motorway journeys

Jakub678 26 June 2013 09:46 AM

How big are these tanks?

Cpt Jack Sparrow 26 June 2013 09:47 AM

I've been tracking my fuel stats on an app:idea:

Not pure rocket science but gives me a good idea how its all going

Always refill at 1/4 tank so would get more miles per fill

300 mile to a full tank. Wolverhampton to Edinburgh.

Fudgey 26 June 2013 10:14 AM

2001 bug UK300 with PPP.
i average between 22-25mpg. 10 trip each way to work and back.
usually get 260+ miles to a tank.
the tanks are 60 litres

ive tried driving like a grandad and got 25.something mpg... so i just drive it normally and get around that still lol

Doobs Scoob 26 June 2013 10:24 AM

If you're even slightly concerned about MPG don't buy a Subaru.

his-n-her-scoobs 26 June 2013 10:28 AM

UK MY97 classic on standard ecu no mods used to scrape 200 miles to a tank if I was lucky.

With Prodrive ecu and accompanying mods routinely get 230 miles to a tank, 250 on a run.

Never drive like a Grandad, life's too short.

:)

Exactly :lol1:

Some of you are getting wicked mileage compared to me, I get 180-220 miles per tank, and even less than that if I'm on one :lol1:

Cost of motoring don't really bother me, I have a 330d to lap up the miles, I get 550-600 miles from £75 out of tha bad boy

Not concerned at all, just want a feel for the range of these cars ;)

ditchmyster 26 June 2013 10:59 AM

Your looking at about 250 miles before thinking about filling again, the tank will be around a quarter full at that point and will take circa 50 litres, it will be pretty much empty at 300 miles and if you start caning it with quarter of a tank you will get fuel starvation unless you have a swirl pot, that's what I get out of my WRX PPP, which is near as damm it same power as an STI, I can get circa 30mpg and have seen as much as 33mpg on a run, my average is 27mpg, but I don't hoon about :Suspiciou much.:D

Fuel starvation = pop for your engine, or no pop to be more precise.

Lots of people with STI's quote 220 ish miles per tank.

I don't see the harm in wanting to know how much fuel your going to be using.

Thanks for that much appreciated, i noticed a few folk get there knickers in a twist about this :lol1:

As i mentioned before im not concerned about fuel cost etc ect, im used to running about thirsty motors, M3, Landrover Discover 3 (worst than M3 believe it or not )

Im getting a general idea though for the mile, 300 ish for the WRX and 220 ish for the STi. All of course depending on that right foot.

Hahaha MPG is like a swear word here! :lol1: Funny thing is, for the performance you get, wrx/sti's have got to be close to near the best for MPG!

I think you were right to ask, no harm in it...

Fonzey 26 June 2013 12:38 PM

Some impressive figures here. My 2005 Blob does 200 miles at a push, normally fill up at 180 with an eighth left on the guage.

Ray T 26 June 2013 02:37 PM

classic tank size

Late Classics Have 60 Liter Tanks, My My00 Tek3 Avg 28mpg About 360 To Tank, Poodle Mode.

RedScoob 26 June 2013 03:04 PM

I reckon that I "could" get 35mpg on a motorway run in my '95 WRX (best so far is 318 miles for 43.76litres).
I always get bored towards the end of the tank and ruin my previous good work... :norty:

romford-boy 26 June 2013 03:28 PM

2005 2.0 litre STI here - never done more than 240 miles before the orange light comes on. Most of my driving is short town and country lane journeys, plus maybe one quarter motorway journeys.

The wife and I always change gear at about 4,000 rpm and when we're being 'enthusiastic' we see 200 miles before the orange light comes on. So very roughly we average 20 mpg.

Classic turbo MY97 onwards have 60 litre tank, the sport still has 50 litre

:)

Donnie Brasco 46 26 June 2013 03:59 PM

I get about 26-28 MPG on avg from my 2005 WRX PPP. Though its only used at weekends, so not much sitting in traffic. When I do use it, it doesn't hang around.

The Pink Ninja 26 June 2013 04:31 PM

I average 200 miles per 50lt tank which is around 18mpg :thumb:

My last bug got around 300 per 60lt tank.

The Pink Ninja 26 June 2013 07:10 PM

You've got 10lt more in yours though you nugget :D

All depends on how you drive it, Off boost saves fuel, I did elvington and back on a tank plus a bit around 275 miles...but it was a boring drive.

Oh and when I filled up I put 49.2lt in so I still had 0.8lt left :lol1:

northern monkey sti 26 June 2013 07:30 PM

Damn I knew I had a heavy foot :nono: im lucky if i see 220 in my sti ppp, have only had it a couple of months tho so still in the honeymoon period :luvlove:

XDevil666 26 June 2013 07:42 PM

I need to try this, everytime though I just sit there twitching to hit boost, kills me inside and still haven't managed to do a full tank without booting it a bit :(

djr 26 June 2013 07:48 PM

Mix of town & "a" roads about 23mpg on a run driving like a saint I can touch 30 in my blob wrx ppp if you do get 1 you must run it on super unleaded I use either shell v power ( can't recall it's new name) or Tesco momentum my local scooby specialist told me to keep clear from bp
