I'll probably end up getting one even though my 360 hasn't been switched on for months. If it is quiet then I could see it replacing the PS3 I use as my media hub at the moment.

"It looks like it accepts videos/NES cartridges" Duck Hunt, anyone? :-) That said I'm sure form follows function here after all the issues they had with temp regulation with the 360. Zavi may be asking £399 but that's guess work as MS haven't yet given an RRP as far as I know. I'd be very surprised it if was £399 as one of the previous main differences between MS and Sony following the xbox/PS3 was that MS accepted selling the consoles at a loss relative to the cost of the hardware (MS openly admitted they made a mistake by charging too much initially for the original xbox), whereas Sony were much more reluctant to do so; hence why the PS4 cost significantly more than the Xbox 360 initially. Most pundits are saying £299 for a base package. I'll happily buy one: the 360 for all its technological hiccups was a fantastic console and the service I got from MS was superb! |
You will just have to make sure you are going to like a game before purchasing it as they are bound to be £60 a time and if there is a new game charge for a 2nd user that takes away any chance of selling a game on if your not happy with it.

Older games which can be bought new for say £8 are over £20 on xbl and when you consider there is no physical product the digital download should be far cheaper than a packaged game. Its all about MS controlling the gaming market, they say they have a place where you can trade a game online.
They also state if you sell a used game on it will deactivate on your console once installed on another, but how can you sell a game if the 2nd user has to pay full price? Microsoft corporate vice president Phil Harrison has suggested that customers who activate a pre-owned retail disc for the Xbox One will need to pay the same price as the original buyer to access the content. |

Wired: What’s going on with used games? What about borrowed games? There’s a lot of speculation today. Can you clear some of that up? For example, we have multiple Xboxes in my house and trade games all the time. If we have multiple Xbox One consoles, can we still do that? Harrison: Absolutely, just like you can today. You take the disc, install “the bits” on every machine you have in your house from the same disc, and anybody in your household can play that game. You have exactly the same restrictions that you have today, as in only one of you can play that game at a time because you only have one disc. But anybody in that house… well, the Xbox Live account… it goes for both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One, and any user inside that house. Wired: So as another example, if I took my disc and went to a friend’s house, would I be able to play that game on his machine? Harrison: Yes, you can. You can take your game around to your friend’s house just as you would today — that’s assuming you have a physical disc — and what we’re doing with the new Live technology is that… with the disc, it’s just a repository for “the bits”. You can put that disc into his drive, you can play the game while you’re there, and then you go home and take that disc with you. But actually, “the bits” are still on his drive. If your friend decides that he really likes to play that game, then he can go buy it instantly, and it doesn’t need to download again. It’s already there. Once he’s paid for it, it’s immediately there. Wired: So the discs that will be sold will essentially be start-up discs, and then the game isn’t really connected to the disc anymore once it’s been installed? Harrison: Once you put the disc into your machine, you never need it again. If you want to keep it, that’s great. You can do that. But you can also download the game. You don’t actually have to have a physical disc after that point, but you can then share that disc with your friends which is basically a great way of distributing the content to other people. Also, let me turn this around the other way. A game can be completely on a disc, with no additional content downloaded. You install the game on your hard drive, and other than pinging for Achievements and other multiplayer connectivity, then that’s it. That’s the end of it. Each game is on a case-by-case basis. But, I think it is very likely, that because of the inherent connectivity designed into the platform, that developers would want to expand and extend an experience over time. |
I was a bit pissed off when I heard about the backwards compatability issue until I realised I only buy COD or FIFA which are worth frig all once the new version comes out anyway so have no need to buy or sell old version. However , I usually wait until they have been released for a while and buy 2nd hand at a lower price which I wont be able to do anymore :(
Not into Connect , or the On Demand for that matter. Already have a Bluray but it would be nice to have it connected to internet (got mine in the early days) I think for £300 I could be persuaded , but what do we do with all our old gear ? The 2nd hand market will be flooded . |

Presumably there has to be some way of getting this to work with countries in other providers though or a big selling feature of the console is negated. On that subject, I do wonder if all of this "integration" is very much MS "doing an "Apple i.e. We'll tell you what you want from technology, you go out an buy it, dummy! :D I would imagine Steve Jobs having a VERY broad grin on his face having watched that presentation. I don't know about anyone else, but I can't help but feel it's an answer to a question nobody has asked: Personally, I just want a great games console, the other integrated media stuff is, at best, subordinate, at worst, undesirable ..... unless you're MS of course in which case trying to lock the punter into their services by providing an 'all in one solution' is most lucrative! As I said, I reckon Steve Jobs would be grinning broadly! I would like a definitive answer to the whole "second hand games market" issue though, as responses from pundits and MS seem rather confused. Some suggesting MS have killed off the second hand market (which I would be very surprised at) others from MS saying that it basically works as it always has done. Ultimately, the console will stand of fall on its hardware and (which we know is good) and its developer/software support, which one can only imagine will be very extensive. I'm reminded of what a pundit said when MS were about to launch the first Xbox and the doubters were saying it would fail as MS didn't understand the console market. I,LL STILL BUY 2 OF EACH CONSOLE, and I know youll all buy something of each anyway, it was a bit **** thought the Xbox.
The virgin media/ Sky listings thing was great if I live in the states hope they do it for UK. the Graphics for COD looks cool, but all I wanted the Guys for COD to say was we have Introduced Cars and Tanks, but no he said a Dog, bah Fifa looks errrr Like Fifa.... all I want is Forza 5 and Gt6 and I,ll be happy |

There are those that must have bleeding edge technology within their PC but IMO the cost of PC gaming has gone down because you no longer need the most up to date expensive gubbins in the box to run the games produced these days. You might get the odd one or two but thats usually lazy development rather than performance related.
But there is still no denying that consoles have gaming in the bag. |
you know something ive been running a core I7 clocked to 3.8 12 gig ram and an ATI 5870 for nigh on 4 years now and ive yet to see anything that wont run.
I play most things, mainly World of tanks , WOW and a few RTS games SC 2 and AOE 3 I will when the time come upgrade to something in the next 24 months as the USB ports are becoming tired, the 5870 still holds its own though. I will prob get a ATI 7990 and sack off the over priced Titan, I,ll stick with Intel but look for a mainboard that support 64 gig, so I can run virtuals for work. but that's prob it, ooo and lots of USB, cos I always seem to run out. I did spin round in my Davros chair today and fire up the 50 incher in my office for a quick blast on Grid for the ps3 because Grid 2 will arrive next week, I managed to get past the first 5 or so races to unlock the proper game and Man alive that game is soo good. anyway better dash im on a conf call and somebody has just asked me a question so I,ll play dumb and ( can you just repeat that please HAHA ) Ted |

i was expecting more graphically. did you see messi`s face on the fifa demo, was it messi???? and the cod demo didnt look good either, have you seen that jungle screenshot, where the beams of light are coming through the trees but the sun is at a totally different angle to where the beams are coming from. lol rushed or what.
hoping for more at e3 but anticlimax comes to mind. |
The majority of the industry expects E3 to be where the games and the Illumiroom (or whatever it's called) will be shown off.

It appears that Microsoft doesn't have the slightest clue what's going on as they're now back tracking in the details from the unveiling.

The Amazon price is just a placeholder. I still think at 399 its too much, im happy with 299.00 but I suppose add the games I reakon easily gonna be 500 600 a pop for us all with controllers and stuff esp as im gonna get ps4 also GULP!!! better start saving |
