Focus RS Mk 2 vs Sti

Has any one had any experience against a focus rs. Was wondering how it would turn out as the rs has more torque than my standard hatch?

tubbytommy 16 May 2013 01:44 PM

the focus will probably slow down so he doesn't have to look in the mirror and see the sight of a hatch............

What are you trying to say?

Ash170990 16 May 2013 01:54 PM

dpending on weather conditions, dryish conditionsan mp350 FRS/ RS500 will have no problems keeping up/ possibly pulling away from an impreza cosworth, wet and impreza will be all over it... but imo the focus has something about it the scoobies dont, just some kinda soul!

not really a ford fanboy though, i like the RS's, but thats cause i have an interest in ncie cars.... Its probably just becase they arent as common as the scoob due to limitedish build numbers....

lol ok cosworth as in 400bhp? The reason i ask is my mate has a focus rs standard 300bhp and i have an sti hatch 300bhp i have the 4wd but he has a bit more torque. would he have it in a straight line with rolling start?

front wheel drive..............

that is all.

but as it happens I quite like the rs focus models, but soul is something they don't have. I had a look around the new one on Saturday at castle coombe. looks nice but its lacking in nice touches. the brakes for instance look too small and are generic ford items and not branded or even painted.

I agree and i have drive the rs and it feels so much slower than my hatch, power is a lot smoother and mine is brutal compared lol but want to know how it would turn out as hes not around till july?

4wd will only help on launch or on wet twisty roads once moving they wont be a lot in it but over a few miles the focus would win as its headgasket wouldn't fail.

Tidgy 16 May 2013 02:35 PM

the dash in an rs is gash, looks like a 1.0 focus with some paint added.

Yeah the 400bhp one, bearing in mind, it will be heavier than the focus and transmission losses with the 4wd system... Yes, focus would win rolling start, depending on how long the straight, the scoob would probably win from standing start unless its a long straight...

Ill agree, the mk2 FRS does have a few things which seem as if their unfinished, but it was costly enough, if it was any more price wise it wouldnt have sold like it did, and although some bits dont look as good as they could, everything works....

And different story for the mk1, people only slated that for its interior (whcih i personally quite like!) and its torque steer, which is only a problem for mongs....

Depends if the focus is modded, if it is and they havnt changed the plenum that might go bang and ruin everyones fun haha

tubbytommy 16 May 2013 03:12 PM

id take the rs over a hatch any day.

bustaMOVEs 16 May 2013 03:19 PM

I overtook a rs focus racing in Germany of course, 330hp fail wagon, focus had a bit of grunt and then the turbo tails off at top end and mine was still pulling so I went past him, simple. Vf34 as people know these keep pulling on top end, not sure how the vf35 would compare

What spec is yours? as my near standard FRS was out doing a hawk and blob at silverstone? down hangers straight the scoobs couldnt keep up... but yeah the turbo does tail off a little top end, but there by no means slow...

on his xbox.

ditchmyster 16 May 2013 05:16 PM

A £300 remap would see you somewhere around 330 bhp and oodles more torque, but keep £3k spare for when the rubber head bolts stretch and your pistons rip their knickers off for a shafting from the rods.:lol1:

330hp/320ft with vf34- the differences between a vf34 and 35 are similar but the 34 keeps pulling on top end where as the 35 goes flat
As said frs had some grunt low down,(i was still keeping up) but then he tailed off at top end where I had the more grunt at top end.
The ones you were Racing we're probably standard 225-265 etc

Serously, if I had 300hp I don't think I would of had an overtake.

tarquin crispin 16 May 2013 07:06 PM

myself and stugsey had a bit of a blow with an rs focus on our way to silverstone last year the blobeye and jdm left it that had some motune goodies but not enough to keep up with us

1. blobeye aps sr40 turbo,aps725 fmic push about 360/370
2. jdm hawkeye miltek/remap 350ish

if the focus rs had been a 4x4 then i think it might of been a bit different i wouldnt under estimate a focus RS

Matteeboy 16 May 2013 09:08 PM

They are so covered in tat that they look like a Halfords joke. And they may be 300bhp but their 0-100 time is pretty poor.

Even my soot chucking hearse is quicker (13.5ish vs 14.2).

Add FWD to the mix and you have a car that's useful only on perfectly smooth, dry roads - try finding them in the UK...

Are you for real? No way either pulls away from a CS400.

So 2 350-370bhp scoobs left behind a 350ps RS? In a straight line there is just not enough power to weight advantage for that too happen imho. Rule of thumb is usually that you need around 100bhp per ton advantage to properly pull away.

Errrr , go drive one and re comment :cuckoo:
My mk1 used to be a bit torque steer.....ish :lol1:
My mk2 grips aswel as all my subaru's have on the roads , grips as good as my old evo's did........not yet tracked it though so will re comment in the summer :D

As for covered in tat
There's no ironing board spoiler on mine ....and don't most cars have a body kit fitted nowadays

It's bollox info that you type that makes everyone assume a driveshaft will snap pulling off the drive

craigyp 17 May 2013 06:30 AM

I love my scoot and at 430 it ain't a snail. But went in a rs other month with 350 bhp and it felt more alive to drive.. Dont know why. I like the rs just can't afford one lol

They are both pritty much the same car, and yes both would, once youve taken into account the added weight of the 4WD system and then transmission losses on the scoob... and the FRS has a higher top speed too!

thats what i mean, theres just something about the RS that you cant put your thumb on which the scoob doesnt have...
