2005 subaru sti wide track good for 400bhp?

hi guys just wanted to know on the 2005 subaru sti wide track is it possible to get 400 bhp reliably this may be asked a lot but im fairly new to scooby club lol

tubbytommy 14 April 2013 07:38 PM

yup it will be fine, require a new turbo and injectors and a few other bits, newage sti cars are good for about 450, some people are way over that with no problems.

Dave-W- 14 April 2013 07:43 PM

Oil change every 5k imo.

This is what I run on my standard engined JDM 2ltr widetrack:
Attachment 68856

It goes like badgers **** off a telfon shovel!

lol nice figures i hear the the jdm does not have the burble due to equal headers? so on uk spec what sort of mods will i need for 400?400 cheers mate

Shaun 14 April 2013 08:34 PM

Yes... JDM uses equal length (awesome!) headers.

UK would need:
Panel filter
Appropriate turbo
Remap
Decat / Sports catted system
Injectors - or standard pinks will get you just shy of this figure
Standard TMIC will just suffice at this level
You may need to get the oem cast headers / up-pipe ported.... not too up on the UK set-ups and what is achievable.

I think you'd struggle to get 400ftlb on a UK 2ltr, assuming you look at using a 400bhp turbo.

i may look at jdm versions not sure how insurance will be like tho i hear they harder or more to insure .. so basically ill need better turbo to get the torques up?

gazney101 14 April 2013 08:42 PM

md321t, walbro 255 pump, 3inch turbo back exhaust. Sti pinks are good for 400 but anymore than that and u wanna go bigger and a map

Shaun 14 April 2013 08:45 PM

A JDM should be no harder to insure than a UK car.... you just need to know the right brokers to use. Keith Michaels on here is well recommended (see their detail in the Insurance Section). That's who I and many others use.

As far as I know the JDM engines are "just better" with better heads and valvetrain. You also have the "better" twinscroll headers. All this provides a better base for greater torque.

UK engines rev to 7k whereas the JDM's rev past 8k.

I doubt you'll hit 400bhp on pinks with OEM fuel reg set-up.

wheres the best place to look for jdm to be honest cant see a decent uk spec either lol standard

SUBARU-STI-2005 14 April 2013 08:58 PM

sorry but what is pinks by the way

Petermaccoll 14 April 2013 09:07 PM

Ive been quoted around the £6k mark for upgrades for my 2005 sti to reach 380BHP, by Roger Clark Motorsport, I guess you could achieve bigger figures for less money but i believe you get what you pay for.Nice to know peoples thoughts though as the thoughts crossed my mind to sell mine and go for a spec c, theres not a lot about though!!!

SUBARU-STI-2005 14 April 2013 09:11 PM

lol if thats the case im going back to evo 9 lol 6 k for 380 bhp is that a fact?

Worlasshasansti 14 April 2013 09:21 PM

Depends if you do your own spannering, where you take it, new or used parts etc etc.

I'm going to buy used parts as I always have, fit them myself then get it mapped by a reputable mapper, I would hope to achieve 380 for around 1200 at the most.

i was going to get new parts and try to get 400 bhp but surely it cant be 6 k to reach that .... i was thinking more like 3k-3.5 just engine remap and mod excludeing brake pads nd disc etc which ill have to get done any way but was just interested on how to reach 400bhp and the cost

Worlasshasansti 14 April 2013 09:33 PM

Best thing to do would be make a shopping list then price all the bits you want, then get a price for fitting and mapping, or ring somewhere with a good rep and get a package price off them, there always seem to be a known specialist not too far away from most parts of uk.

If you're not doing the work yourself I would find out who can be trusted with your car within a distance you're willing to travel and give them a shout.
