Pic request - Lowering springs
So I'm going to be in a position to finally be able to lower the scoob (MY03 STi) a little but can't decide which springs to go for.
It's not a daily driver and I'm not intending on using it on track so it's a "fast" road setup I'm after. I dont think coil overs are really what I'm after, mainly due to budget so I've been looking at changing the springs. I've been doing some research but would like to see some pics of cars (blob STi's preferably ;) ) that have been lowered on standard shocks with lowering springs. Show us what you've got! :D |
the ride will be awful on lowered springs and standard sti shocks (mine were prodrive ones but others may be a lot better), get yourself some bc coilovers and sell on the sti shocks.
when i fitted coilovers i got £150 on ebay for the sti set up |
Steve, trawling through my archives I've found some pics for you when she was still on 17s about 7 years ago lol. Not great I know,
Stock ride height http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...scooby/a11.jpg Whiteline flat out springs/ oem STI dampers. I'm looking at the same thing in the summer. I'm considering Eibach Prokit springs on standard shocks! I've seen your car around Lakeside Sir Fozzalot. Looks nice mate!

Mine when I was running Tein S-Tech springs...

Fozz, tried RCE in the US? Race Comp Engineering? They do a lot of KW stuff to their own spec too. ;)

One thing to bear in mind when getting lowering springs is although the initial price is cheaper, the labour charge when fitting them will be higher compared to coilovers. Swings and roundabouts really.
|
speaking from experience.... bite the bullet and go for coilovers if you really want to lower your car, I bought some springs after I fitted them a few months later my shocks gave in so had to replace them anyway that's when I got my BC BR's ride is pretty hard but with a good set of tyres as well, the grip is immense.
standard http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...k/DSC09474.jpg on eibach springs http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...nspook/1-1.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...sinspook/6.jpg as it sits now on BC's http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps94ffdbcb.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps05069c6d.jpg |

I've had a price of £585 (supplied & fitted) @ Subaru Dealer for the Eibach Pro-R springs for my car. |
This is how my bug sits, 18's with a 50mm drop. I used KYB AGX shocks with whiteline flat out springs so the ride is still very good - not as crashy as coilovers set to the same height but as the car is becoming more track focused I am going to migrate to coilovers at some point:D

Can't see labour charges any different for springs or coil overs.
Both require the strut to be removed and dismantled to use the top mount unless the coil overs come with top mounts. |

Or you have a mate with an unhealthy amount of Snap-On in his garage. ;)
|
It doesn't have to be snap-on - I quite like my Halfords professional kit for weekend work:D

I can't make up my mind between the whiteline springs and the eibachs, currently got Tein s techs on a set of WRX shocks but have replacement STI shocks to fit springs to, Tein's are to low at the back.
Really want the JDM STI pinks but to import them puts me into coilover money. |
Have found these:
http://www.japshop.co.uk/acatalog/Su...uspension.html Not sure though if they are bug or blob fitment? First set of springs down the page. |
