Top thread mate

jaymma 09 April 2014 11:04 PM

great thread mate, quick question do you jack your car up on the rear diff and do you put anything between the jack and diff if it is where you jack it up?
thanks

Fonzey 10 April 2014 10:43 AM

Yes mate, jack has got a rubber "puck" on the actual plate so the diff is protected.

Goes without saying that axle stands are used for support too!

Started getting some bits trickling through (at last!) for my suspension change:

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-u...411_164456.jpg

Went for the Whiteline Max-C adjustable front mounts, and Group N rubber rears.

Compared the GroupN mounts with some OEM ones I have knocking around - the rubber is MUCH stiffer, so hopefully a good compromise.

Washed the car today (nothing new there...), but as I was wiping down the inside of the boot lid - I noticed a perpetual dribble of mucky water coming out from the back. I started peeling back the boot seal, and before I knew it I'd pulled it all off - and was horrified to find:

Needless to say, got a nice stiff APC mix and got to work on that lot all the way around, then took the seal inside to clean that out too. LOVE jobs like this...

Hoping to get the KW's next week, would love to have them to give me the easter weekend to fit and test etc... but based on their pace so far, I'll probably see the rebirth of Christ with my own eyes before getting the coilovers.

It's amazing how much crud gets under those rubbers:eek:

Guys im sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm just wondering how this motor is going?

Thoroughly enjoyed reading it :thumb:

Think it went a bit further than what is documented here but then he sold it for an Elise 111R

Yikes, grave digging time

I did indeed go quite a bit further with this, I can't remember why this thread got neglected - but there's a comprehensive write-up here: http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/vi...=646364&page=1

To summarise it ended up at 400bhp with a TD05 20G, ID1000s and a few other bits. Did a bunch more trackdays in it then decided I wanted something that didn't drink quite so much on track. Got an Elise first, then sold that and now in a 260bhp Exige (which laps about 4 secs quicker than the Impreza did @ 400bhp)

Thought I'd poke around on SNET as I'm wondering what ever happened to my car. I can see from MOT history that it piled on the miles after I sold it... but looks like it got SORN'd this summer, hopefully nothing terminal!

If anyone knows the new owner, give me a shout - just out of curiosity! Still the best car project I've had, miss it almost daily!

Love this thread, shocked to see it was actually you commenting on it after all this time.

Out of interest how much does the exige drink in comparison to the impreza?

:wonder:

Cheers, if you're bored it's well worth reading the full version on corsasport (link above). This was the first car I really modified and I learned a shed load on it.

The Exige does about 35mpg on a run, it's got a tiny fuel tank which is it's main concern for trackdays and similar to the subaru it does suffer fuel surge issues so looking into a baffled tank which will also increase capacity to 60litres. With a 60l tank in it, I should comfortably be able to drive to the track, lap all day and then drive home on one tank... in the Subaru I'd frequently do three fillups on a trackday!

The Exige has other advantages too, tyres and brakes last ages too - but it wasn't as "track ready" out of the box as I was expected. Baffled sump and aftermarket toe links at the back are pretty much mandatory before you take one on track.

Well it took me the best part of a week, but I read all 88 pages on Corsa Sport. Lots more cleaning, polishing, wheel changes, purchasing of shiny bits, front caliper drama / porn, gasket replacement & general spending / faffery than what’s detailed on this thread.

The Exige looks more “fluid” round blyton, guessing that’s lower & lighter for you? But don’t spoil it for me as I am just reading your Elise thread now...

Apparently you can’t fit in an Exige as of the hardtop & you hardly get anything extra for the £5-6k premium, so I am intrigued to see how it plays out :lol1:

Great stuff! Glad you've enjoyed.

When you're done on the Elise front, my Exige thread is here and is up to date as of the last few weeks: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/...f=47&t=1782184

Re: Elise vs Exige, I still believe that the Elise is (significantly) better value for money than the Exige, you can very much get an Elise up to "Exige S" spec for a little less money, and actually end up with a faster car... that said, I ended up selling the Elise for other reasons (details in the thread) so when I came to be back on the market again - I was looking initially for an SC Elise that I could 'carry on where I left off with' and I would have even bought my old one back had the new owner not blown it up :D but then when the Exige came up, I lost all sense of rationality and went for it. I figured that if I felt it not worth the money after a summer, I could sell it on after not losing much/anything and just go for an Elise.... as it happens, I'm pretty happy and hoping it'll be a real long termer. (and yes I do struggle to fit into it with a helmet on, I've got no headlining on and I sort of need to angle my head a bit whilst on track...!

Two steps ahead of you Kyle, not only am I now 3/4 of the way through your Exige thread on PistonHeads but I am already following you on Instagram :lol1:

The garage has come on nicely, just need to remount the ladder so it doesn’t foul the bench when it’s the right way up :thumb:

Well glad you found it, I write my threads for my own benefit - I re-read my Subaru and Elise ones fairly regularly to try and learn from my ****ups! If somebody else gets a bit of enjoyment out of them too, then happy days!

In the meantime, if you see my Subaru knocking about - gimme a shout! :king:
