Turbos?

Hi guys, ive been looking at upgrading my turbo on my 2002 WRX, but there is so many to chose from? my target is 300BHP! whats the best turbo to go for? Thanks Aaron

Dmacnz 17 February 2013 12:41 PM

For 300hp the td05 16g would do the job and at a good price! I would think 300hp would almost be possible with the stock turbo. Crank power anyway!

Scoobyclinic SC32 Billet is a great little turbo and only £495 + vat on an exchange basis/

I would consider the vf series, maybe a second hand vf35 which come up quite regularly, or even a vf34 but these are quite rare to get hold of. The vf35 you could pick up for £200-£300 a bit more for a vf34. The td05-16-18g are also good ones to consider, a 20g would be too laggy I think on your motor.

Just a few examples, depends whether you want a new or second hand one really

good luck mate

TD05 16g you can pick up a good one for around £100 and good for up to 330bhp without putting it under too much strain..

I'm guessing both type are a direct fit? And I will need injectors to suit the turbo? Along with a remap!! I have mainly been looking at the VF series seems the beat with least lag. Thanks for your replies

The TD05 16G will need to have a front entry conversion (most have) and the parallel VF series are bolt on. Not a shed load to chose between them really.

These turbo's flow a lot more than your TD04 and you will need a better panel filter, fuel injectors, fuel pump, plugs, de-cat, STi TMIC plus the re-map to get the maximum gain.

Plus you may need to think about brakes as you will pick up speed quicker than you think LOL. If our clutch is tired it will shred that too along with third gear on the box if that's tired too.

Cheers Shaun, I already have uprated brakes all round and recently had a new clutch, so I should be ok there.

I was looking at 255 fuel pump, FMIC, injectors and VF28 or possibly bigger.

Aaron

I currently run my 2002 Bug WRX with a Deadbolt 18G plus methanol injection and a bit more besides.........

Never had more fun with the bug than when it ran a TD05 16G, STi TMIC, de-cat, panel filter, walbro and bits.

I never thought it would break anything, try and kill me or cost me a fortune. Every time I floor it with my current bug set-up I wonder what it's going to cost me if something goes wrong.

A bit of light reading regarding the scoobyclinic range of turbos. 4,000+ posdts only joking about the "light" reading.

Simon aka JGM has recently had just a smidge over 300 from a TD04

stedee 18 February 2013 11:34 AM

but is it really necessary to get a sc turbo for 300 hp. just get it remapped as above simon got 300 out of a td04.

BigZee87 18 February 2013 03:22 PM

keep the td04 for 300 dude, mine is running 294.1 with a 255 fuel pump, K'n'N pannel filter, and turbo back afterburner vortex. Took it to mark at tdr warwick, blokes a genius when it comes to scoobys!! costs a lot less than getting a new one, feels like a new car aswell, where as the turbo used to give up after about 6k, mine pulls hard almost all the way to the limit now :)

brendy76 18 February 2013 03:56 PM

VF24 here (same as vf28). They can be gotten from 140+ knicker.

AaronDrewell 22 February 2013 01:03 PM

I think the seals are going on my current turbo, i was thinking about getting a VF30, thats sightly bigger than standard isnt it? also would i need bigger injectors to suit the turbo?

Tidgy 22 February 2013 01:38 PM

vf30 is the base for a vf35 and vf34, both of which are better than the vf30.

if your aiming for 300 then sc32 would be best bang for your buck at only a couple of hundred above what a decent 35 or 34 would cost you.

chet123 22 February 2013 02:21 PM

vf34 if you get a good conditioned one, and one which has proven figures to back it up.
Or failing that a vf35 which have good spool up and mid range which is will be idle for the power you are looking for. Just noticed a guy is selling one on here.
