Broadband speed test.

I've had my fibre optic installed today but my current app for my phone and tablet only goes up to 20 meg. Are there any accurate ones designed for mobile devices which don't require flash player? My laptop says I'm getting 69 meg at the mo......big difference from 2 :lol1:

Speed test.net app for iPhone/ipad

Cocker 01 February 2013 04:29 PM

Just tested mine - 117mb. Bring on the pron lol

Ash170990 01 February 2013 04:29 PM

most importantly, can you watch HD porn without it buffering every 20 seconds? lol

Ant 01 February 2013 04:32 PM

What's wrong with flash! :lol1: I thought it was the best thing on android.

Even with the iPhone app I won't get the same speed as my mac basically down to device limitation

I had sky fiber installed on Tuesday and its only half speed! Modem stats show 40meg downstream and 10 up but a speed test shows only 20down...!!!

Who's your fiber with?

That is ethernet Ant....a Google search brought up many other sky fiber customer's with the same issue. I haven't called them yet because no doubt I'll get fobbed off with the "monitoring period" speech so I'll wait the 10 days and see what they say.

CharlySkunkWeed 01 February 2013 09:00 PM

I just got Sky Fibre 2weeks ago , have the Speedtest.net App .

Mostly in and around 20Mbps , has went as high as 30 , and as low as 12. Steady now at 20.

hodgy0_2 02 February 2013 12:02 AM

i have just had infinity installed

60mg download for a wired (ethernet) connection

24mg download from wirless (whether Ipad app or PC browser)

I just put it down to wireless

Being wireless isn't affecting mine much. Like I said, on my laptop on the first day I've had between 40 and 69 meg...just want to see what tablet and phone are doing. Speedtest.net only goes to 20 meg!!!!!!

stedee 02 February 2013 02:58 AM

same here.

wireless pc is 35 meg , but phone it only goes to 20 meg on speedtest and i`m getting about 13meg

kernel 02 February 2013 09:16 AM

I thought Sky only did the 40Mbps fibre so I went the web page to look. Boy are they unhelpful, failed to see what the max speed was for the normal product but saw you could get a Pro product, click to see what that offers and all it says is

If you have even higher internet demands, you should try Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro. It costs £30 a month with Sky Talk Weekends and Sky Line Rental (£14.50 a month), and is available to Sky Broadband customers in selected Sky Fibre areas.
Oh so that's what the extra 10'er is for!

I'm with Plusnet, 19.99 for unlimited up to 80/20 Mbps (I only get about 52/10) with ~£10 for my line rental as I paid a year up front.

CharlySkunkWeed 02 February 2013 10:30 AM

Speedtest.net goes over 20 , mine is sitting at 22.5Mbps right now !

When I try to go on the actual Speedtest site my tablet automatically takes me to the mobile version/app!

CharlySkunkWeed 02 February 2013 03:13 PM

Whats wrong with that ?

it is usually the wireless that limits devices, proper speedtest use a wired connection to router. my iphone5 gets a much higher speed than my ipad on the same network.

wireless depends on chipset used and other devices on the wifi network.

i use speedtest and see 41mb on ipad3 and 57 on iphone5, pc i see about 65mb.

Geezer 03 February 2013 12:09 PM

There was an article on BBC news last week about SKy broadband saying people were suffering because Sky had added too many people without ensuring they had sufficient capacity. Worth a look.

wireless often use encryption which will also skew the displayed results
